Cool looking but disappointing overall

Comments about Fender Steve Bailey VI 6-String Fretless Bass:

This bass looks so cool and the sound is pretty good. But, overall this a poorly made instrument and doesn't deliver the goods unless you plan on spending some extra money with a good repair guy to get this in pro-level playing shape...which I did and still was dissappointed.
The bridge is way too complicated to adjust. The stand- by switch is OK, but not much need for that. Love the pickguard.
This bass has serious grounding problems. Got a lot of extra hum in the studio. Back of the neck is sticky no matter how my repair guy sanded it. Fretboard needed serious leveling to make it playable. Big neck dive issue due to shorter strap horn. Very disappointed with the overall quality. Taking off the pickguard revealed finish damage from rush job drilling.
Should be priced way lower; was expecting a lot better quality for the price.

One of the only production Jazz-style 6ers!

Comments about Fender Steve Bailey VI 6-String Fretless Bass:

I have the fretless version of this bass in black, and with a little tweaking it absolutely kills. The one bummer was that it was difficult to get super-low action, but I slapped some tapered (exposed core) strings, and now I can get it right down to the fingerboard.Excellent single coil growl, nice balance, the neck feels like butter, and the ebony fingerboard is a joy to play on. Also, the pickup positions allow for a wide variety of tones with just volume and blend controls.

Hear me out...

Comments about Fender Steve Bailey VI 6-String Fretless Bass:

Don't get me wrong, this bass sounds good. It plays easy for a 6 string monster, BUT the curse of cranking instruments out is poor quality. When you pick it up, you instantly realize theres not much to it. Yes, its light and that can be a good thing, but not in this case. You could get a high quality, better sounding, neck thru, from a lesser known maker for the same price. I was a little upset about it, but I still love Steve. Even though he tricked me.
