Comments about Ibanez AEB20E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is beautiful, but it arrived with extremely poor action! I quickly determined the cause to be the saddle was way too high- the neck was perfectly straight. When I removed the saddle to file it down I saw that the strings had cut grooves in the saddle, which is made from a plastic that is too soft.So I replaced the saddle with a piece of Corian and lowered the string height over 1/4" from the factory setting and now it plays and sounds great!

Comments about Ibanez AEB20E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a beautiful 4 string bass, however the pick-up would not amplify the "G" string. When the volume is increased to hear it all the other strings became way to loud. I'm sure it was just a defective pick-up but I did return it and I received the no hassel return policy from Musician's Friends. They were extremely helpful with this process. My hats off to them.

Comments about Ibanez AEB20E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar:

I've owned several basses but not an acoustic one. After Looking at several brands and models I decided to go with the AB20E. This bass was priced right and I believe it's a great value from a respected manufacturer. As with most acoustic basses played unplugged it lacks the projection needed for playing "out", but works adequately when practicing/rehearsing with my (acoustic) picking pals. Plugged in, it's a totally different animal. The sound is deep and smooth and, with a little tweaking using the built-in EQ you can get it to bite as well. I found it to be very resistant to feedback and have only had to use a sound hole cover once.

When the bass arrived the action was high, on the saddle side. I just took it to my trusty local shop and had it setup. Action was great after that, with no dead frets or uneven string volumes. The onboard tuner sometimes takes a few moments to "wake up", which is probably my worst beef, but is accurate once going. The neck on this bass is not a slim "fast" one, it's acoustic old school, yet very comfortable, smooth and fun to play.

I purchased the black version and it looks terrific. You'd have to pay a LOT more to find one that sounds just a little better plugged or unplugged. For the price you can't beat the looks and sound of this bass.

Comments about Ibanez AEB20E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar:

When this bass first arrived, there were small cracks in the finish. As usual, the customer service dept. jumped in and had UPS here the next day to take it back. They shipped out a replacement bass and that whole process was about a week. Out of the box, the finish is very nice. It is a real nice bass to look at. Nice full sized body and comfortable, full sized neck. Strings are just a little slack for transit; that is what I expect from MF. Powered up the onboard tuner and tuned to pitch and sighted the neck. Very slight back bow...no biggie.

Set her down in my home studio for a few days to adjust. Checked the neck and she looks straight. Played for a while, unplugged and everything played nicely. I will change the strings at some point, but so far, so good. She has a nice resonant tone that you can feel in the upper bout. Rich harmonics. Decent projection. You have to find a balance between sound projection and striking the strings. If you play electric bass with low action through a hot amp, this acoustic will be an adjustment for you.

Plugged it in to a GK amp and she will feedback for sure. Dial in just enough volume, bass and treble and you could easily do a Cafe' gig without any problems. Now, believe it or not, it's the electronics where this bass shines. It sounds really sweet when you have it dialed in just right. This bass would be great for recording. Not only do you get a 1/4" jack but you also get an XLR out! Nice touch and clearly this acoustic/electric bass was meant to record. Beautiful finish, nice neck with matching headstock, very nice electronics, full body and full sound...buy the frigging thing!
