Release Date:09/30/2016;Notes:Vinyl LP pressing. In Concert was Simone's first album for Philips and was made up of three live recordings in Carnegie Hall, New York City in March and April 1964. This album marks the beginning of "Nina Simone, the Civil Rights singer" in her recording career. Included on the album are politically laden songs, most notably the self-written "Mississippi Goddam," released as a single at the time. Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist who worked in a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. Simone's musical style fused gospel and pop with classical music, in particular Johann Sebastian Bach, and accompanied expressive, jazz-like singing in her contralto voice.;Track List:1.
