Comments about Hal Leonard Guitarist's Guide To Scales Over Chords - The Foundation of Melodic Guitar Soloing (Book/Online Audio):

Ever wonder what Phil X is talking about when he starts mumbling about majors, minors, and pentatonic boxes? Tired of just playing other people's music? This is the book for you and i's amazing! I know quite a bit of music theory but this is the first book that i have ever seen that shows how to turn that theory into playing! I really, really love this book and, if you continued reading this review after seeing "music theory", I bet you will too!

Comments about Hal Leonard Guitarist's Guide To Scales Over Chords - The Foundation of Melodic Guitar Soloing (Book/Online Audio):

I have been playing guitar for several years, but soloing is something I could never wrap my head around. For whatever reason, it was just something that kept eluding me. I'm only halfway through this book and I feel like I know so much more now than I have the past couple years. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Comments about Hal Leonard Guitarist's Guide To Scales Over Chords - The Foundation of Melodic Guitar Soloing (Book/Online Audio):

The neat thing about this book is that it teaches you to quickly and easily compose lead guitar medleys.
It does a good job with that, as long as you are willing to read it slowly. You should already have a basic understanding of chords and also have the dexterity to get around the fret board when you start this book. You need to be able to read guitar TAB, but you don't need to be able to read music. To an intermediate guitar player, I would think it would take a couple months to get through this book, memorize most of the scales and fingerings and master several of the licks. That would be quite an accomplishment for an intermediate player to learn in that amount of time, right? So this book is totally worth the time and cost! the only problem is that the book doesn't teach very much about the chords that accompany these scales and licks. You have to learn them somewhere else, so maybe also buy a chord book of some sort. The other problem I had was that I tried to do a lot of the exercises on my acoustic guitar, but you really need to be able to get to the high frets and be able to bend strings easily to master this book, so you might want an electric guitar. That's who I think this book is really for: electric guitar players who are intermediate or better.
