TP-8300R Series Timpani Set

The Yamaha TP-8300R timpani kit includes five top-of-the line timpanis in evenly spaced sizes from 20 to 32 inches. Each timpani features a cambered, hammered copper bowl and pedal balance spring system for warm, consistent tone. Cambered Profile for Richer Tone

The squarer profile creates ample volume, ideal timpani decay and significantly improved mallet response. Combined with increased surface area due to the hammering, the shape also emphasizes the special sonic characteristics of copper. Yamaha also added other thought-out and proven refinements to bowl size, bearing edge shape and the diameter of the aperture in the bottom of the bowl. The overall result is rich, deep tone with superior playability.

Highly Adjustable, Reliable Tuning

The adjustment and tuning system is also packed with helpful details. This begins with the pedal adjustment clutch system, which lets players set their preferred resistance while keeping the pedal perfectly balanced. The pedal spring and head tension are balanced as well, to make sure the set pitch stays constant even when the foot is removed from the pedal. When adjusting, the pitch change is gradual and consistent, configured to approximately a minor sixth per inch.

Thoughtfully Designed Mounting System

It doesn't stop with the drum and pedal—the mounting system is also expertly designed. The timpani frame does more than just support the bowl. It plays a significant role in sound quality as well. In addition to offering outstanding strength and operability, the frames are designed to a weight that contributes to optimum acoustic response. The bowl is seated in a “Floating Mount” suspension ring and does not contact any other part of the instrument. This prevents distortion of the bowl and allows unrestricted head oscillation for superior tone, resonance and pitch clarity. This frame design brings out the full musical potential of the bowl.

Don't Forget the Casters

Large main casters are supplemented by a third caster below the pedal, allowing the instruments to glide smoothly and easily. The height of all casters can be adjusted over a 25mm range, allowing precise adjustments to the instrument height as well as head angle. The instruments can be ideally positioned and tilted for standing or seated playing, on any stage. Adjustment is carried out using the supplied tuning key or an appropriate allen wrench, and can be easily accomplished by one person.

In keeping with its status as Yamaha's premium timpani line, the 8300R series has a few extra touches that make these drums a pleasure to use. The tuning indicator can also be easily relocated to the left or right side of the instrument to facilitate German or American setups. A tuning key/wrench holder attaches to the side opposite the tuning gauge. And lastly, the Yamaha/Remo collaborative Renaissance heads include aluminum insert rings for outstanding expression with stable pitch.
