I have the 16" that came with my kit. 45 year veteran tried a new set yearly for the past 8. These drums sound like no other, are reasonably-priced (not cheap) and are "real DWs" (and I've had PDP Platinums). This thing, with a coated Ambassador, will sustain for about 10 seconds even to my ringy, worn-out ears. Had to experiment with lots of heads to deaden it some. Coated Ambassador is good if you want sustain but clear Pinstripe sounds great overall. I'm wondering if P3 or Pinstripe coated would be even better. Evans Onyx and coated Ambassador X sound lousy on it (to me).

After trying out coated & clear heads, 1-ply / 2-ply, I found that AQUARIAN heads are best for Maple shells.. Aquarian clasic clear RESEDANT head, Aquarian force II beater head. Cant go wrong. Pricie heads yes but, its Maple wood, Aquarian brings out the punch and low end & you still have tone.. Remember Maple kits are LOUD, these heads bring em down a couple of knotches.Outstanding drums though, not much different than DW collectors series.excepy for the price.!
