I've been using Gretsch drums now for over 10 years, and after struggling to tune my Forum in gigs, and having to deal with broken Ludwig hardware, I say now loud and proud that I will only sit behind a Gretsch kit. I had the Gretsch Catalina Maple kit with the extra 16" tom, which was great for some styles, but when I moved into jazz/country/ska I decided that it was time to move into a 4 piece kit that could fit into my car but could handle being gigged on night and night over. Mind you, I still use my Catalina Maple but I've almost exclusively used the Club from this day on. A few suggestions: The snare is rather small, so be sure to get just the right tuning down to maximize your tone. The toms, while small, can handle some serious low end tuning to complement the cannon you will have under you. Number two, my set came with Evans G1's, which don't suck, but eventually I moved to a Remo black coated head that really sinks in a punch. Invest some time into this bad boy, and you will find that Gretsch will deliver again and again.

I bought this set, in a different color, I believe it was the "tattoo" finish. I don't understand all the hype about this set. The tone is very flat. The bass drum sounds half the size it is. The inside of my floor tom shell cracked before a year had passed. I bought the set with the intention to strip off the coating and stain them, but the wood they use looks absolutely HORRID. I am doubting that the shells are 100% mahogany. Save some money and get a Ddrum Dominion, which is very similar but way better. I will never buy a Gretsch product again.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I purchased this set from my local music store. I like the looks and the rack tom mount. The only bad part about this set, (or that i've came across) is that it dents really easy, so i strongly suggest buying a cover for it.but overall it's worth it.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I play guitar in a band and needed a kit for practice (drummers complain too much about hauling their kit around). I bought this kit just by looks. I didn't even know how it sounded. It surprised everyone to the point where it's the only kit we use for gigs. Now I complain that I don't want to haul my kit around. It's a compact size with a huge sound. Many people have commented on the look. Plays great, sounds great, and looks great. Now my drummer just has to show up for practice with sticks.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I just started playing drums and I have owned these shells for about 2 weeks now, and I got to tell you; I have seen an improvement in my playing already mainly because I love playing this set. I love the paint job, the black hard ware, the tight sound, and above all the cannon for a kick drum. Bottom line, if I had to describe this drumset with one word I would have to say...sexy.

Great set, Bad lugs

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

Ok, I'm an active musician and I play rock, punk, metal, and hardcore stuff and its a great set. I got it about 6 months ago for Christmas and absolutely loved it, and still do. About 20 mins ago I started playing and the snare sounded pretty high pitched so iIwent to loosen the lugs and a few were jammed. Long story short I eneded up breaking the bottom head and the lugs are still stuck..Overall I love this set and it has a great sound, as long as you tune it right, and the heads that come with it are great.A definent buy!

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I got this set a couple months ago. I saw it online and once I saw it in person I had to buy it on the spot. The flat black finish looks amazing in person. Everyone who sees/hears this kit loves it. I changed the heads to Remo Black Suede Emperors- looks stunning. Toms sound good once you tune them well, the 20x20 bass drum is the best part of the kit, it is a canon. I recorded with this set and it turned out great. Very deep tones on the kick and toms.Snare drum sounds decent but it has a limited tuning range with the 13" size. It is not up to par with the rest of the set. I wish it came with a 14" snare because the kit is very loud and booming and deep. Hence the 4 stars on quality. It sounds enough to play live, but not for studio purposes. Great set overall. Id buy it again.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I'm a hardcore/metal drummer so I was alittle worried that I may not be able to get the tone and sound I want.. I was wrong! The set has a powerful feel to it. Definitely concert worthy no doubt about it! The wood has a very nice high quality feel to it and most of all the sound!

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I've had my Black Widow et for about a month now, and I have loved every minute of it! It's the nicest looking set I've seen and the flat black reall makes it stand apart from other glossy sets. The rack tom that adjusts on the cymbal stand allows for any positioning. This way, you can have all the the pieces closer for speed. It sounds just as amazing as it looks! Highly reccomended!

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I bought this set along with a zildjian avedis pack for gigging and for home practicing since I recently moved my monster set to the band's studio. I tuned the set very "jazzy" (high snare, low toms and bass). I just love the sound of it. The snare is powerful and deep, the toms fit very well in sound and size, and you definitely want the bass drum. The finish is kind of delicate, so I bought a set of bags for gigging. I got Gibraltar hardware when you buy this, which is a plus. The DW 5000 double pedal fit perfectly for the black and red details of the pedal, just in case wanted one.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I've had this kit for a little over a year now. I walked into Guitar Center for a pair of sticks and walked out with this kit. It wasn't even set up all the way, I was just taken over by the finish. So I asked to finish setting it up and play it, and once I did, it was as good as mine. the toms have that "gretsch sound" and the side cannon of kick will blow you out of the room. The snare is great for a jazzy sound, but lacks that cracking pop. Get this kit!!! So worth it.

I've always been a pearl player, but Ineede somthing smaller to play smaller venues and this thing fits the bill perfectly, never had problem with it slipping out of tune or any problems at all for that matter and the bass drum sounds like a cannon miked.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Black Widow 4-piece Shell Pack:

I played this kit down at my local best buy (i know, weird... a lot of the best buy's are getting a music department now). Anyway, I was blown away by this kit. It sounded amazing. Amazing punch and attack on the kick, and the toms were very punchy and resonant. The snare being big had a nice deep crack to it. Overall, i think it was an awesome kit, esp for the money. I would buy it but I don't play drums that much anymore.
