Comments about Meinl Pickup Slap-Top Cajon with Mahogany Surface and Passive Pickup System:

This cajon is the smallest in comparison with the original and the turbo version. May be because of the pickup, Meinl decides to sacrifice some of natural tone of the instrument. The original slap top has great sounds and this is what it is missing exactly. Its size is both an advantage and a shortcoming. It is easier to transport for sure but you have lesser surface to play on thus less sound choices. For whatever reason I found my tone and snare knobs make no differences during my test and I quickly realize that you will be at the mercy of the pickup working correctly. The bass knob works. I think Meinl is better off putting a pickup in the original Slap Top as an option.

Comments about Meinl Pickup Slap-Top Cajon with Mahogany Surface and Passive Pickup System:

After trying a Turbo Slaptop Cajon in a store, I ordered this model thinking that the pickup would make up for the smaller size. The bass tone is not good, and the snares are only on the left side. When plugged into a mixer it was VERY noisy and needed a ton of gain. Perhaps I needed a DI box? In any case, I returned it and bought a Turbo Slaptop Pickup cajon that I'm very happy with.

Comments about Meinl Pickup Slap-Top Cajon with Mahogany Surface and Passive Pickup System:

I own the larger, earlier Meinl Burl Slaptop,
and with two Sennheiser drum mics, I have a full, versatile sound with distinct bass drum, tom, and snare sounds, either playinh with brushes or by hand. However, because of the cheap, tinny sounding pickups and too small size, this version can only. e played by ha d and even then, sounds cheap. I'm returning it, and exchanging it for another full-size cajon.
