Walnut has become increasingly popular as a snare drum wood because of its superior sonic quality, warmth and mid-to-low frequency. Birch, on the other hand, has been a well-defined and trusted standby in drum construction for many years, offering uncompromisingly solid attack and its trademark "pre-EQ" balanced tone.

TAMA set out to preserve the unique sonic trademarks of each wood, but also to let them blend into a very focused sound that would define itself with great distinction within a musical ensemble.
