Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
The drum was already tuned and ready to play.
This is all you need; solid hardwood lenke hand-carved one-piece shell. No inferior softwood from Ghana, etc.
The skin is thin/medium thickness - no weak spots or blemishes
The rope colors are bright and coordinate well with the well-oiled shell.
I've bought djembes and dununs from the supplier before - they are high quality and a very reasonable price. This drum is finished like a drum costing nearly twice as much.
This drum is finished like a drum costing nearly twice as much.
If there was a 14" version available I would have bought it. However, this 13" model is the most common djembe size anyway.
Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
The picture does not do the drum justice at all. Very cheap for the quality of the drum. It has an amazing sound, very clear tone. The bass is huge, and the slaps are piercing. I was totally blow away with it as soon as I saw it. It also has really cool carvings on it. Buy it! It will be totally worth your money!

Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
I have been learning West African Drumming in a class for a couple of months.
I tried a lot of the teacher's drums and was left feeling very disappointed in the sound.
He quoted me 500-600 for a good one. I didn't have that much to spend.
So I went looking for drums and read a lot of reviews, tried a lot more...and found this one.
I saw the fellow's YouTube video about this particular drum. It wasn't totally helpful in some ways - he's a novice and says so - but I still loved it because it was very sincere. And it tipped me towards giving this one a try.
I am very glad that I did. The sounds it can make are exactly what I was hoping for. It doesn't sound like a novice drum that has no tone. It's up to the musician to learn to make the sounds correctly, of course, but if you have a crummy drum, even a professional can't get it to sing.
I am really happy with this drum. It will take a long time for my expertise to develop to it's capability - but it gives me something of quality to practice with.
It is my much larger than I thought it would be. It is 28" tall and 14" across. Most of the drums in my class are 24" high and 13" across. I am only 5'2" so it's a bit huge for me.
However, I got a strap to help me hold it and an XXL case to carry it in and I manage. When sitting correctly with the drum tipped forward and the strap on it, it's not a problem at all. And the sound makes up for the giant size!
The teacher says it's a really good drum and agrees that it sounds good now - but feels it could use some tightening and then it will sound even better! But that is something left to a future time. It's sounding pretty doggone good right now!
Great drum - awesome sound, nice looking wood (of the recommended traditional variety) excellent price - PLUS a return guarantee. Those are what sold me!!

Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
This Overseas Connection Mali djembe drum has a powerful, commanding sound without the annoying ring. It is very well made and is easy to play. It is a good fit for me (13" diameter X 23 1/4" high). I am approximately 6' tall. It is lighter than I expected weighing 16.6 lbs. The wood is approximately 5/8" thick at the base. I also own Overseas Connection's 12" X 24" Ivory Coast djembe drum. It is considerably heavier, weighing 19.6 lbs with a wood thickness of 1 1/8" at the base. The sound of this drum is also powerful with a great tone, but the tone is slightly different than the 13" drum. Both are excellent quality but the quality and workmanship on the 12" Ivory Coast drum is slightly better than the Mali drum. The carvings on the Ivory Coast drum are much deeper and more pronounced. My wife loves the way they look. She has already incorporated them in her decorating plans. They also sound great when you mount them on stands and play them together. I am primarily a piano, banjo and guitar player but I really enjoy playing these drums. You can't go wrong with either drum. I highly recommend them.

Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
I was nervous buying this,as i couldn't find any outside reviews for this brand of djembe, but once i took it out of the box, i can honestly say that it was completely worth it! I spent some time in local stores and in my opinion, the craftsmanship of this drum stands out above the rest and definitely feels more authentic. I will certainly feel proud to take this to any local sessions and i'm sure it will get great compliments. Pricey, yes, but worth it? I feel like it was completely worth it! Don't be afraid to buy this one, you won't regret it. On youtube i have a video review of it. Look up OVERSEAS CONNECTION DJEMBE and you should be able to find it. My name is gmee123. Feel free to ask any questions.

Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
I own several djembes made from traditional African woods and this is among the best I've ever played. For starters, this drum is lenke, one of the most prized and best sounding woods. The drum is heavy, which is what you want. Great goat skin head. For the price of a copy or a non-traditional wood you are getting the real thing. It's loud and the bass, tone and slap are very distinct and easy to play on it. The rope is a bit thin but easily replaceable. You don't have to spend $500 to get a real pro djembe!

Comments about Overseas Connection Mali Djembe:
Trusted the Reviews before I bought this. I'm glad I did, can't stop playing it, very authentic sound. The low and high tones are very resonant, and it's so easy to 'slap'.
Shipping was fast, drum new condition, no dents, chips or scratches even though it had been half-way around the world to get to me.
Very happy African Drummer!

I LOVE THIS DJEMBE SO MUCH I BOUGHT A VERY EXPENSIVE CASE TO PROTECT IT. IT'S THE ONLY DJEMBE YOU'LL EVER NEED, BUT I PLAN TO BUY MORE FROM THIS BRAND BECAUSE IT'S SO WELL MADE AND SOUNDS SO GREAT. A STEAL FOR THE PRICE!
