After checking out videos of this snare on Youtube I immediately wanted it, and it didn't disappoint. Especially considering the price, I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to buy it. The depth seems to give it more volume and even with the stock heads, it has a good punch. I just got it so it hasn't really taken a beating yet but so far, I'm glad I ordered it and its probably going to be my main snare.

Features were good. Heavy hoops, decent throwoff, diecast end butt and upgraded snare wires. Decent original equipment heads too.
Beautiful drum. Sounds average. Quality was great except for the following on mine. The holes in the lugs for the swivel nuts (receivers) were machined too far out from the shell. The result was that the tension rods went in at too much of an angle. They tried very hard to cross-thread. Also the top of the rods would barely pass by the flange on the hoop so that the drum key didn't have space to work properly. Of course it had to go back. Bummer. I got the PP Big Black Brass snare though and love it.
It's a good value if you get one that works properly.

Impressed for the $!!!

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Steel Snare Drum:

I bought the 6"x14" 10 lug drum. I have owned a few steel shell snares in the past and found some to be brash and overwhelming with volume and brightness and lacking in character. Although this drum is loud it's tone is pleasing. I recommend a coated Remo Emperor batter head, or an Evans coated G2. On the bottom an Ambassador or Hazy 300. The tone is bright like any steel shell, but this drum has a rich tone at the sametime. I actually prefer this drum to the BOB Black Beauty brass snare that Pork pie sells for about $100 more. You can't really go wrong with this drum for the price if you want a well made workhorse snare drum.

favorite drum in my collection!

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Steel Snare Drum:

An amazing drum - - and not just for the price. Slap on a new Ambassador, crank the bottom head, and you've got the newest workhorse in your collection. The 6" depth is a great compromise between more common sizes like 5.5 and 6.5. I was holding out for a brass or bronze shell, but I quit looking when I played this at my local drum shop. Get it, you really won't be sorry
10 lugs, great throw off, heavy 2.3 hoops

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Steel Snare Drum:

Not having played for 11 years, I recently came back to drumming. I purchased a Premier Maple 'rock' kit, and needed a snare. The Pork Pie Squealer came top of my list after seeing it and hearing samples. With the supplied heads, ( me thinks a standard Ambassador ) on top, cranked up to medium to high tension and the snare head very tight, I get a clear cutting sound with some lower tone in the mix. The drum is sturdy, well built, the snare mechanism works great, and the lugs are of an appealing design. It really is a nice drum for the money. I had to have it shipped to me in UK as I couldn't find one here. But well worth the money.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Steel Snare Drum:

This is a great snare drum. The only reason I do not give it a 5 star review is because of the quality of the Throw off and the snare butt. The shell itself is heavy and solid, it doesn't sound cheap, you would not tell the difference compared to a very expensive snare built in with the same specs. Very responsive, easy to tune and very versatile. You can tune it ,loose, medium and tight without any issues, the tonality between is great. You can really get a big sound and go right up to have more of a tighter, punky sound if needed. It won't disappoint in a live situation or in a recording, it cuts through and will sound like a £400 snare drum by any top level snare/drum maker/brand. Don't be put off by the price, this is an excellent snare drum. If they could upgrade the throw off and snare butt you would have a fantastic snare drum that could easily become your main weapon when playing live and recording. Well done Pork Pie drums.

Didn't know how it would sound. Was going to get a batter and a larger snare wire after tuning and testing determined it don't need it. Really responsive and dry enough , not much overtones. I'm impressed plus small enough for double bass pedals and positioning.

This drum is a real beauty!! For a drum in this price range, it far exceeded my expectations. I like a fairly tight, high sound with nice metallic overtones, and this snare delivers exactly what I look for in a drum. Pork Pie is a great, underrated contender in the field of drumming IMHO!!!

Great addition to any kit but especially rock, punk, or heavier music. Would also be great for funk. Has a very bright tone and projects well. Very responsive snares. I put on an Evans G2 coated head and it is good to go for live playing or recording.
