OVERVIEW

Killer kit for the studio ace!

Roland has improved upon their industry-standard V-Drums by starting from the ground up. The heart of this flagship system is the TD-20 module with amazing sounds and sophisticated functions, superb expressiveness, and in-depth V-Editing. The patented mesh pads have great dynamic range, natural rim-shot triggering, and sharp looks with stunning black finishes. The TS-20S-BK also features the amazing new V-Hi-Hat with full motion capability.

TD-20 Percussion Sound Module

The newly designed brain has more than 500 new sounds plus superb expressiveness and dynamic range. Its sensitivity lets you play more naturally without having to adjust your technique. You can vary your rim shots and bass drum sounds by varying your technique. A new interval control offers better snare rolls and more realistic cymbal swells.

More powerful V-Editing

You get greater modeling power using Roland's latest COSM technology. Careful analysis of an all-new array of physical drums gives you a lot more choices. For example, you can now select from several types of kick beaters such as felt, wood, or plastic. Cymbal sizes can now be changed along with their sizzle factor and mic position. You can even add snare-drum "buzz" that matches your selected snare. Subtle nuances like these collectively make a huge difference in the overall sound of the V-Pro.

Enhanced Performance Features

Onstage and in the studio, the TD-20 offers a host of powerful features to make the drummer's life an easier one. 8 group faders let you adjust the relative levels of each part (snare, kick, hi-hat, etc.). 15 individual compressors and EQs let you sculpt each sound to perfection. A 5-part sequencer is loaded with preset backing patterns and plenty of room for your own. Ambience effects and a stellar multi-effects processor let you further shape your sound. The new Mastering Room lets you add compression and EQ to the overall sound. 10 analog outputs plus S/PDIF digital output give you plenty of mixing and recording options.

New CompactFlash slot

The TD-20 now also has a CompactFlash slot to store custom kits and patterns on optional cards. An expansion bay on the underside means your TD-20 is future-proof. You can even use the TD-20's V-LINK technology along with an optional video editor from Edirol to trigger images or change cameras from the pads or kicks!

VH-12 V-Hi-Hat

This breakthrough electronic hat is designed to precisely model the look and feel of its acoustic counterpart. It'll even mount on any acoustic hi-hat stand. Full motion capability on the top and bottom cymbals lets you play with ultra-natural stick and pedal work. Dual triggers convincingly convey all the nuances of an acoustic hi-hat from open to closed to half-open. Applying pressure to the pedal, even after closing, will alter the pitch for playing fast and tight articulations.

PD-125BK/105BK 12"/10" V-Pads

A brand-new sensor mechanism offers more accurate triggering, resulting in even and accurate sensing between the rim and head. They're the first V-Pads with rim shot capabilities on the toms and they even include the actual rim-click sound.

KD-120BK V-Kick 12" Trigger Pad

The time-tested design is now black to complement the rest of the pads. It offers fast, natural kick triggering and is compatible with optional double bass pedals.

MDS-20BK Drum Stand

Its curved design keeps everything in reach. Hardware has been upgraded with more durable T-fittings. Quick-release cam levers on each leg and the cymbal stands allow the tiers to stay in place when adjusting vertical height.

I have been playing acoustic and electronic Drum sets for 21 years now and I have had extensive time on this set as well as many of the other leading Electric Kits. This E-Kit is certainly one of the best on the market but if you really want the VERY BEST then you need to consider some alternatives. First: Roland IS the best at making the brain of the set. The TD-20 is by far the best module on the market. Some other modules have a few sounds that I like better than those on the TD-20 but for all arround performance and options, there is no question the TD-20 is #1. Second: The Roland VH-12 V-Hi hat that comes with this kit is also at the top of the market. I don't think it is the most durable but it is certainly the most realistic feel I have ever had out an Electronic Hi-hat. *After the Hi-Hat and the module there is nothing left to buy from Roland.Third: The rest of the kit now comes in one package. The Hart Dynamics Pro 6.4 6 piece E-Kit. This kit comes with the same line up as the Roland V-Pro kit with 2 toms 2 FloorToms, an upright kick, Snare, Hi-hat, and 3 cymbals. The HD(Hart Dynamics) Kit is incredible. These are the most realistic feeling and most responsive pads I have ever used. The cymbals are fantastic as well and actually look exactly like real cymbals. After playing all day on an acoustic set it is much more natural to come to this kit. You can play with the same style without having to adjust for the E-Kit. Also with this set up you will have 2 Hi-Hats which I have always had on my Acoustic kit and is very nice. One of the best things about this "Best of the Best" kit is that you can put it together for actually LESS than it would cost you for the Roland V-Pro TD-20s-BK. Check out my parts list, you can get it all here at MusiciansFriend.com.Roland TD-20: Roland VH-12 V-Hi-Hat: Hart Dynamics 6.4 6 piece Set: At the price you will pay for this kit as compared to the complete roland kit, you have $** left over to buy the Hi-Hat stand, snare stand, kick pedal, and thone. If your really want the VERY BEST then do not pass up the opportunity to try out the Hart Dynamics gear. YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Playing acoustic drums my whole drumming career I made the jump. Thank you Roland. If you have the money to take the plunge you wont be disappointed. I don't see me going back to acoustic sets unless I need that stage presence. This set is awsome!!!

The V Set

By Bass Boy-ffKTy

from Longview WA

The V Set I call it its a perfect set for the professional I Use it at my studio and its got an accustic feel to it the heads are made of nylon for a long life and every cymble is chokeable and the sound is just amazing it has expansion slots as well its a perfect set i use it and mix it with real cymbles. And when used with double bass the sound is lethal no need to mic just hook it straight to MIDI or a Mixer...but the price sucky

Premium Set- Ridiculously Premium Price

By 25+YearsofDrumming

from New York City

This is an incredible set but I went with the Yamaha DTXPIIS, not as pretty, not quite as customizable... BUT more than half the cost. I played this set at a friends for hours, then in the store, if it was, say, just about four grand only a fool would pass it up, currently Roland's pricing makes it so only a fool would buy one. Yamaha's new IIS heads, despite being ugly rubber (on a ugly set, c'mon Yam, at least make it LOOK like a drumset!!!) are actually better feeling IMHO. Roland's heads ultimately feel like little trampolines, they do NOT however feel like real drums. Neither does the IIS, however, they feel significantly more realistic to a real set if that matters. The TD20 is an amazing set but unless you're a trust fund baby, have some ridiculously high paying job, work for some big church bilking the believers into thinking $$$ = heaven, or in a huge multiplatinum band, this set isn't made for the average joe, and certainly priced ridiculous for the average working musicians. Save your money and get an acoustic or, if you have to, the Yamaha IIS.

Expressive, Awesome

By Zdeve22

Very advanced electronic kit, the best (by far) thats I've ever played. You can customize anything, shell depth, type of head, size of shells, cymbals, anything. It feels like your playing the real thing, particurally the new hi-hats. The one problem is the price. It's priced at what breaks the bank and then some. Very nice though, very expressive.

I don't own this(way to expensive), but I play it all the time at the store and I love it. awesome sound in the headphones, even though its fake(not acoustic. Tightenable heads on all the drums, so many sensors for different sounds, I would kill for this thing

Just Got 'Em

By Kegger

I tried every electronic set at the "store" and this is the one. I used this set for a casino gig 3 days after I bought it. User friendly, limitless parametric adjustment capability, sensitive, expressive... I love it! I just wish there was a set of road cases available.

Big Fan!!

I'm not a drummer, but my bandmate bought these and they sound AWESOME!!! To me they feel really good too. Not exactly like an acoustic kit but really close. The snare is out of this world good IMO. These things have made a huge difference over his old Roland kit.The only way someone would say these sound bad is if they are listening to them through a crappy little speaker. You need to run these through a good speaker to get the real experience, even headphones isn't enough IMO.We run him through a Bose PAS, double bass, and the kit just sounds great at any volume. And that's really the trick, great drum sounds at low volumes (and high). The entire band is loving this kit, not just the drummer. Thank you Roland!

this thing is ridiculous. i don't have it, mainly because i don't have $$$ to spend on a drumset, but i'm pretty amazed at everything on it. you can customize individual drums within individually customizable kits. i'd probably have as much fun putting different kits together as i would playing it. for example, the thing has more effects options than my line 6 amp modeler. thats pretty cool. if you do buy this, get it here; anywhere else its like a thousand bucks more.

I love it!!

This set sits in our church sanctuary and it is by far the best electronic set I have ever played in years! Everything on this set is ridiculously customizable with the new TD-20 module they have added to the V-Pro series. The response to the PD-125 V-pads is one of the best new features of this set which gives you more control as you play. The new acoustic style hi-hat is awsome along with great sound and response, with dual triggers on the toms and cymbals. This set is second-to-one against all other electronic sets, but of course so is the price. I definitely recommend it to beginners and pros alike!

This drumset is the only electric drum set that has made me feel like I was actually playing the drums. I am an avid drummer of 12 years, and i have never seen a set like this one. The response timing is flawless and the pressure sensors allow you to get different sounds depending on how hard you hit. I love it.

THE VERY BEST, HOWEVER IT AIN'T CHEAP!!

By You're killing me, Larry!

As a former pro musician, I can honestly say that this kit just BLEW me away after playing almost every other kit out there. It's like having a car with no power steering and then driving a Cadillac! It was so responsive that the sticks seemed to bounce back to me effortlessly. I've never had so much fun playing. BAD NEWS- If you're the average musician, you probably won't be able to afford it unless the price drops a couple of G's. I know I'm going to settle for something less. TOO BAD!

What a whopper!

By Drummer4God-rfpo7

from Lakewood, CA

I have to say, this is a really nice set overall...i am a 12 year old drummer(about to be 13...), and when my church had an anniversary, one of our old drummers played for us. getting to the point, the P&W team practiced (i was there...), and when I saw this set with him on it, playing...amazing... I'm not very experienced with choosing drums, but I do play them... and sometime in the meere future, I'm gonna buy this set... the features are awesome...the acoustic-like appearance of the hi-hat, and just the whole set is cool...

I simply love the set. Just two things - memory locks on cymbals and toms need to be added. Custom cases should already be on the market but are not yet available.

Awesome set. Messed up price.

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I've played this set at my local music store and it was absolutely amazing. Most every sound you can produce on an acoustic set you can produce on this E-set. Then theres the little extra fun parts like different kits and you can mess with the settings to get the exact sounds you want. The price is ridiculous, however. Living in a place were you cant get an acoustic drumset and having to work like heck to make that much $$$ is really frustrating. Is it worth it? I have yet to figure that out. If it was at least 2k cheaper I would definitely go for it, but wow. Im going to have to think about it.

Neighbors Rejoice

By Thunder Phil

from Colorado

See all my reviews

Were it not for two tours of Iraq, there is no way, aside from winning big at Vegas, I would have otherwise been able to afford this kit. It was worth every lungful of choking dust, every drop of sweat, every MRE I ate. This is the Lambourghini or drum sets. The great things about this kit: I can practice all day and my neighbors don't want to attack me. The sampling capibility is a lot of fun to play with. The electric drumheads respond and sound just like acoustic drumheads. It's pretty much all been said. Now, the things that kept this from earning 10 stars across the board. COST! My choices were - buy a car or buy a drum set. I bought the set. It will get you out the door with the pads, triggers and rack, but you don't have a throne, snare stand, hihat stand or amps. Luckily, I scavenged the parts off my acousic set, but it felt like putting a hubcap onto a Diablo. After the sticker shock wears off, I'll pony up for some nice DW hardware. I'm not really happy with the mushy feel of the heads, but that just takes a bit of getting used to. At first, it looks and sounds like a little toy set. Switching from an 18" floor tom to a 12" trigger is a bit strange, but takes getting used to. Like a Ferrari, if you can afford it, get it. Like a Ferrari, people gather around it and drool.

This is the most realistic E kit ever made.I have used a variety of electronic kits from lower-end Rolands to Harts and Yamahas and nothing even comes close. The only drawback is the price but once you've used it, you'll be to spoiled to settle for less.
