Incredible Drum

By Adam Birch

Comments about TAMA Starphonic Snare Drum:

This drum is great. The linear snare strainer, the super sensitive snare wires, the finish. It's all top notch. I've had a LOT of different snare drums but this one is the best. It is the most sensitive drum I've ever played. It goes from a whisper to a roar with ease. I prefer to play it wide open, but a couple of moon gels dampen it just enough to get fat backbeats.
You can't beat the price for this. It's much less than a black beauty, and just as good. In fact the features (hardware, etc.) are better IMO.

Comments about TAMA Starphonic Snare Drum:

This is my second Starphonic (Bubinga & Brass) I love these Snares! I love all the cutting edge features of this snare, but the sound is always most important & this snare delivers!! It's easy to tune and stays tuned, no de-tuning issues here thanks to the specially designed lug casings that grip to the tension rods.I love my Ludwig black beauty but that has always been a problem, highly recomend Tight Screw tension rods for this issue.. And usually the 1st thing I do when I buy a snare drum is change out the snares to premium Puresound snare-wires. That is not necessary with this drum, really..! The stock hi-carbon steel Tama snare-wires are sweeeet...they are super-sensitive without having to over tighten & choke the drum and sound great & deliver real nice crack!! Back to the sound.. This snare drum delivers intense rim-shots that can really cut thru the mix ..thanks to the hoops that are curved inward like the old-school Slingerland stick-saver's hoops that have really made a come back recently. They sound & feel great..easy on the wrists also. Great cross sticking..The 6' brass shell is warm but distinctively metallic and cutting.. All in all, an insanely well engineered Snare Drum that sounds as good as it looks..Well Done Tama!!
Cutting Edge Grooved hoops makes head changes hassle free, dual adjustable strainer, hi-carbon super sensitive snare wires, lug casings that really grip on to the tenion rods preventing de-tuning Yes!!
Top-Notch attention to detail & quality control!!
Very competitively priced for a high-end snare drum..
