Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

If you're looking for a versatile ride cymbal that can complement virtually any style of music, look no further. The 20" K Heavy Ride is a chameleon that possesses a clean, clear sound that's beautifully balanced between somewhere between high-end ping and the sought-after dark, smoky sound of K Zildjians. Being a heavy ride, you sacrifice crashability for stick definition, so if you're a wash rider, this may not be for you. However, if you want a musical (yes, this is a MUSICAL heavy ride!) ride that will always deliver a clean ride pattern with smoky, dark character, this might be the ticket. Move toward the bell and you get a tighter, "pingier" sound. Move toward the shoulder and you get more dark wash (that never gets out of control) without losing stick definition. The bell itself is airy, yet projects nicely. It doesn't overpower, but offers great accents for Latin ride patterns or a funky grooves.

I've been using this ride for just about everything (big band, jazz combo, rockabilly trio, worship music) and have been nothing but pleased. I've received numerous complements on its sound as well! But you don't have to take my word for it...

I recently saw the Count Basie Orchestra perform live with Butch Miles on drums (check him out on YouTube). Butch has used a 20" K Heavy Ride since it's invention and swears by it. It's clean and loud enough to cut through a roaring 18 piece big band, but dark a musical enough that he also uses it with small combo work.

In contrast, Roger Taylor, the drummer for the legendary rock powerhouse Queen, also counts on his 20" K Heavy Ride to deliver clean ride patterns that can be heard through amplified guitars, bass, and keyboards.

If you get the opportunity, try a 20" K Heavy Ride today, and you just might have discovered your new go-to ride cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

For riding, it's an awesome cymbal! So musical, and an awesome, sharp "ping" sound. Very tight stick definition, loud when it wants to be and a nice, sharp bell. The problem with the heavy ride is it has waaaayyyyy too slow of decay. Honestly, when I ride on it and go to the hi-hats, it will still be "ping"ing for 15-20 seconds. That's crazy. It's a great cymbal, but I would strongly recommend going with the K medium ride.

    21

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

I have the 21" (which has sadly been discontinued) and I absolutely love it. I play a little bit of every style under the sun and this one covers them all. It's heavy enough to rock out on, but it's still got nice dark qualities for jazz. The only problems I have are that it's not great for crash, but heavy crashes never are, and I'd like a little more "uumph" from the bell, but that's what I have other cymbals for. When I started playing drums when I was 14 I though "Z Custom Z Custom Z Custom!" but now I realize the way to go are the K's and K Customs. If it's not a K, then it's not a ride cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

Wow! This ride has an amazing clear, crisp, tight "ping" sound, with a very soft wash. The bell sounds like an octive from a xylophone because it is so musically pleasant to the ear. I have played many rides in my 25+ years of playing, and this is one of the BEST rides I have ever heard.

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

This is a great sounding cymbal. I have owned it for about 3 months now and I love it. The bell is very bright, crashing on the ride is full and loud. The cymbal gives off a dark sound while riding but is not as pinging as the A custom rides. The only real con is the price on this ride but it doesn't take away from the quality, durability, or the value in this ride.

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

Love it. Has everything I want in a ride cymbal: great amount of ping, beautiful bell, and can still can be crashed on just a little. It's a K Series, so the tone is of course outstanding. The price is pretty good compared to other high-end rides If you at all like the aforementioned characteristics, do yourself a favor and check this ride out.Amazing.

Sounds very close to the classic Paiste 602 heavy rides from the 70's.

    Great musical ride

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

Note: This pertains to the 22" K Heavy RideWhen They say this ride is musical, they're not kidding. It sounds like it's singing a breathy song when you play it. A great balance between stick definition and wash, and believe it or not, I even get my 22" Heavy Ride crashing every once in a while. No matter what I do with this ride, it sounds good. It's pretty loud for a K, but it's no Z or A custom. Still, the quality and complexity and musicality of the sound is great, even for hard rock.

Decent Ride, But Not the best

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

The k Heavy ride is a good cymbal, but with amps turned even 1/4 of the way up, all but the hardest crashes on this cymbal are covered up. the stick definition is outstanding over clean amps, but when the distortion turns on, the ride turns off.

    Excellent cymbal

    By S.J.

    from Raeford, NC

Comments about Zildjian K Heavy Ride:

I own the 20". I play metal and this was what I was looking for--a heavy ride that's musical as well as loud. Very loud, defined ping with excellent bell. A little more pricey but in the cymbal world, you get what you pay for. Well worth the investment.
