For someone thinking about learning pedal steel this is a good value. You'll know in less than a month of playing if you like steel or not. Most people give up after 2 months. If after 1 month the guitar is gathering dust - you have not wasted a ton of cash and should be able to sell it on Craigslist! On the other hand, if you do like it, you have all the tools to get started and make good progress until you can afford a pro level guitar.
I've been thinking about taking up pedal steel for years. When I saw the difference in price between this bundle and the pro models my choice was clear. Now that it's arrived I'm very happy--been playing it for a couple of days and am getting around just fine. The instrument arrived strung, which surprised me; and it was also almost in tune. The instructions are pretty clear, though I was glad I had another book on attaching the pedal rack to the rear legs. Everything you need other than an amp is included. You can't go wrong!
I was surprised at the quality and sound of my carter starter. The sustain is super! A very good steel for the price. I love mine.
i purchased this package looking for a lighter alternative to my double-neck pro steel. knowing that it was a beginner's intrument, but hearing alot of good things about CARTER steel guitars (expecting some quality)!! well....DO NOT purchase this guitar if you can play at all!!!! the best thing about the guitar is that is DOES play pretty nice & stay intune pretty good!! but.....the quality of the parts, etc. is more like a TOY!! yes it is inexpensive, but i still expected some quality!!don't even bother with the accessory pack...the volume pedal is not very good, the gig bag couldn't protect a tank from a slingshot & it doesn't even fit snug (i think it's some freakin keyboard case or something?).anyway....not real happy here, i think they could up the retail abit & make a really nice beginner/semi-pro unit without scaring people off; look at the price of "pro" steels!!!!
This steel is good for a new learner to the instrument but not good for playing later on. The body of the guitar looks really good but is way to lite. I pushed the knee levers when playing one and slid it about 8 inches across the floor. The price is also a bit high for a student model, maybe 300 to 350 would be a fair range. For a beginer learning, go for it....afterwards, plan on buying a pro model because this one won't do the trick.
I recently purchased this pedal steel, and I couldn't be happier with it. It is extremely well made, with no flaws in it's construction at all. The included DVD was a huge bonus, giving me direction in everything from tuning this thing to differant methods of playing. The only possible fault that could be placed on this is that the gig bag and leg bag aren't of high quality, but it does the trick. It's really nice having everything come with this such as the picks, volume pedal, and slide even. I recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful sounding pedal steel at an affordable price, and a great way to get started.
