OVERVIEW

A limited edition model with great sounding pickups.

Opportunity knocks! Danelectro's pickup supplier "misplaced" a load of lipstick pickups in their warehouse only to discover them recently 15 years after they were manufactured.

When the folks at Danelectro listened to them they realized that these "New Old Stock" wonders have more twang than any Lipstick ever. Is it because of the aged magnets? Or the materials used 15 years ago? Who knows. Who cares. They just sound great.

So they took their flagship 59M model, with the tuneable die-cast bridge, and installed these 15-year-old wonders...and voila...the best sounding, best playing Dano ever. The bad news? Quantities are limited. So snag yours today. Made in Korea (fabulous build quality). Hot vintage colors.

Comments about Danelectro 59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

Let me begin by saying that I have had (3) versions of this guitar. An original 59 double cutaway single pickup, a mid 1990's reissue and this one in the copper color. The tone in all three were very close to being the same. However, the overall quality of this most recent edition is probably the best of all of them.

Danelectro guitars are unique to themselves. They are economically constructed using masonite for the body and the lipstick tube pickups have their own signature tone. Most guitar players know this already. However, what Danelectros have always suffered from is cheap hardware that that makes these units a challenge to keep tuned. It has been that way from the beginning which includes the most recent model (although the current hardware is better than the previous reissues). Fortunately, this is easily remedied by retro fitting good tuners and bridge hardware. The original bridges with the wood saddles are completely worthless once the strings ware in the notches. You might as well throw it in the garbage.

I like the design of the new bridge system, but I think it is of cheap quality. Most manufacturers do that to keep that price point down. The klusen style tuners that came with the guitar are ok, but not near as precise as the Gotoh versions. The concentric volume and tone knobs are vintage correct, but was not necessarily a good ergonomic design. I always thought that a simple volume and tone combo would have been much better.

Having said all this, the 59 Danelectro DC NOS reissues are a great and economical addition to one's tool box. I always wondered what one of these would have looked like brand new and now I know.

I would have rated it a 5 star, but the hardware issues prevent that. Change the quality of the tuners and bridge hardware and you have a lifelong keeper.

Comments about Danelectro 59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

best "out-of-the-box" set-up of any guitar I've ever purchased...no need to adjust anything, however, the toggle switch was noisy/scratchy and, at times, the guitar completely cut out. I sprayed with Caig Deoxit and ProGold and this was fixed. Also, the toggle moved up and down...I put a socket on it to tighten the hex nut and the whole thing must have moved. By sheer luck, it is now in the proper orientation, i.e., it now moves left to right, and when it points toward the neck, the left vol/tone is engaged, and pointing right towards the bridge, the right vol/tone is engaged, exactly how it should be. Also, the pick guard is bowed up between the pickups (not enough screws around the perimeter) but Dano has excellent cust service and is sending me some matching screws which I will install to correct this. Otherwise, this is an excellent guitar with unique tone and, I like it so much, I'll probablly buy another model. You can't go wrong with one of these.

Comments about Danelectro 59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

I was very surprised in the quality of this instrument....I purchased a "open box" special at the reduced price and was expecting some issues of some type do to it's previous "experience". The instrument has all the build quality that you would expect in a Korean built instrument....it plays well, sounds good, and stays in tune and the improved bridge works well although as mentioned by other reveiwers the bridge will inhibit your ability to make quick string changes during a gig but over all a extremely fun guitar at a affordable price.
