Bret's customization of the Z played on the "Celebrity Apprentice" intro.

The Dean Bret Michaels Electric Guitar features a mahogany body with a 24-3/4" scale set mahogany neck. The Z body style is balanced and comfortable and provides complete access to the fast 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. It's fitted with custom designed hi-output Dean USA DMT "Time Capsule"
pickups and the string-thru-body design gives added sustain. Other amenities on this Dean guitar include a Tune-O-Matic bridge, Grover tuners, and black hardware.

Bret says, "Just like my career of 25 years, Dean Guitars has withstood the test of time, manufacturing the very best guitars in the industry for over three decades. Dean's acoustic and electric models have been there for me night after night all over the world. They are the only guitars that can keep up with me, holding up tour after tour. Dean Guitars Rock!"

Time Capsule Pickup
The Time Capsule series of pickups is what Dean currently uses in their original TC series guitars. This neck position pickup on the Bret Michaels Z guitar captures the biting tones of the vintage Dean instruments produced from 1977 to 1986 with very strong lows and mids creating the tone that was used to record multiple platinum albums during this era.

Comments about Dean Bret Michaels Z Electric Guitar:

Great guitar.Came set up,just had to lower the bridge.Truss is set good, intonation is dead on.It is ultra light, the lightest guitar I have owned.Very thin body but not too thin. The pickups are excellent, the neck is amazing. My only problem and it's an easy fix,if I fix it.The rear strap button screw is stripped but,it's just about all the way tightened. This guitar is overall an amazing guitar.I am no Brett Michaels fan,I just wanted an explorer that came with good features and wasn't going to spend $1400.Epiphone guitars are no match for these Deans.I've owned Epiphones,no thanks. This not your dady's 10 lbs guitar,it might be half that but it does not feel cheap. It feels like a sleek metal machine.

Comments about Dean Bret Michaels Z Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar regardless of it being a Bret Michaels signature series; I simply couldn't pass it up with those looks (I have the alpine white model). I'll separate my review into the pieces of the guitar from the top down.

First off, the headstock. Traditional Dean 'V' shape looks great. The tuners blew my expectations out the water. They hold their tuning very well and they respond to minor tweaks very well. No complaints here.

Next, the fretboard. The darker rosewood compliments the white of the body and headstock very well. It has traditional dot inlays except at the twelfth fret, which has a cross similar to the one on the body. My only complaint here is that this is a 22-fret guitar; I would have loved a 24 but this isn't a big deal to me.

Next, the electronics. The guitar comes with two knobs (one volume, one tone), a three-way selector switch, and DMT Time Capsule pickups. The pickups are my only major complaint with this guitar and the only reason it didn't earn a five-star review. It's relatively well-know that Dean is infamous for their below-average pickups and this rings true for this guitar as well. The stock pickups are muddy and muted and no matter how I ran them through my amp I couldn't find a sound I liked. However, I replaced them with EMG 81/85's and they positively scream. Seems the only issue with the electronics in this guitar is the pickups, everything else is fine.

Lastly, the body. Obviously this guitar is going to attract attention and it's actually what lead me to buy it in the first place. It's a lightweight but sturdy mahogany and the Explorer-style shape looks great.

Overall, the guitar has potential to sound as good as it looks. My only issue was the stock pickups, but since I have had them replaced it's been hard to put the guitar down. Great for the price.
