Overview

A semi-hollow Telecaster Thinline with authentic CuNiFe humbucker power.

The Fender American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline electric guitar captures one of the company’s most distinctive early-'70s designs. Its semi-hollow ash body gives the guitar an open, resonant foundation, while dual Authentic CuNiFe Wide-Range humbuckers deliver the fuller voice that set the second-generation Thinline apart from earlier Telecaster models. The 1-piece maple neck, 7.25" radius fingerboard and 21 vintage tall frets create a period-correct playing surface for clean chord work, articulate rhythm parts and expressive lead phrasing. As part of the American Vintage II series, this Thinline brings period-accurate design, vintage-style hardware and classic Fender craftsmanship together in a build made for players who value authentic tone and feel.

Semi-Hollow Ash Thinline Construction

The Telecaster Thinline was originally developed to produce a lighter Telecaster from heavier ash, and the 1972 version pushed that idea into a more powerful second-generation design. This American Vintage II model uses a semi-hollow ash body that keeps the familiar Telecaster outline while adding the airier feel and resonance associated with the Thinline format. The 4-ply aged white pearloid pickguard gives the guitar its unmistakable early-'70s look, wrapping the dual-humbucker layout into a design that feels distinct from both standard Telecasters and later solidbody humbucker models.

Authentic CuNiFe Wide-Range Humbuckers

Dual Authentic CuNiFe Wide-Range humbucking pickups are the defining sound of this Telecaster Thinline. The bridge pickup delivers the added output, punch and top-end authority that made the 1972 design a major departure from traditional single-coil Telecasters, while the neck pickup adds a broader, fuller voice for rhythm work, lead lines and warmer clean sounds. Together, the HH pickup configuration gives this Thinline a bigger Fender humbucker character while preserving the clarity that made the original Wide-Range design so recognizable.

"C"-Shape Maple Neck and Vintage Tall Frets

The 1-piece maple neck features a "C"-shape profile, gloss polyurethane finish and 25.5" scale length for a period-correct Fender feel. A 7.25" radius maple fingerboard, 1.650" bone nut and 21 vintage tall frets with black dot inlays give the guitar a familiar early-'70s playing surface that supports clean chord work, articulate lead lines and traditional Fender response. The bullet-style truss rod and 3-bolt neck construction further reinforce the 1972 specification, giving this Thinline the visual and mechanical details associated with the era.

Six-Saddle Hardtail and Fender F Stamped Tuners

A Pure Vintage 6-saddle string-through-body hardtail bridge with bent steel saddles gives this Telecaster Thinline individual saddle adjustment while maintaining a direct string path through the body. Pure Vintage Fender F stamped tuners add another period-specific detail, while nickel/chrome hardware, knurled flat-top control knobs and the included chrome bridge cover complete the vintage-style hardware package. Master volume, master tone and a 3-way blade switch keep the control layout simple, familiar and stage-ready.

A 1972 Thinline Built for Vintage Fender Fans

The American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline is built for players who want one of Fender’s most distinctive early-'70s designs: semi-hollow ash construction, dual Wide-Range humbuckers, a maple fingerboard and period-correct hardware in one historically focused electric guitar. It delivers a bigger, more open Telecaster voice than a standard single-coil model while keeping the clarity, feel and visual identity that make the Thinline so recognizable. Whether you prefer its semi-hollow response, authentic CuNiFe humbucker tone or period-correct construction, the Fender American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline offers a period-correct take on a landmark chapter in Tele history.
