OVERVIEW

Vintage features, including hand-wound pickups, make this a serious fan.

The classic look of a Stratocaster never gets old, and a decade after its introduction, the instrument was poised at the brink of history-making music in 1964. The Fender Custom Shop celebrates the 1964 Stratocaster by recreating the instrument with a choice of relic'd finishes, hand-wound pickups, a 9.5"-radius hand-selected rosewood fingerboard with 21 vintage-style frets and, in an extra-special touch, the long sought-after "L Series" neck plate.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop L-Series 1964 Stratocaster Heavy Relic Electric Guitar:

i have always loved the Sherwood green fenders - and thanks to the great sale price i have an L series strat. what a fine guitar - only complaint is the over kill on the relic job - but it is still a great looking axe. the neck is great and not over done on the wear, it is the body that was over done. the paint job is top shelf (why so much abuse above the pick guard, a little less on the relic job and this guitar would look amazing) - great brown tolex case with a cool tool kit.

of course, this guitar has all of the great Stratocaster tones, and it has a great feel when you play it. quarter sawn maple = most definitely a feature that i will always look for in any guitar.

overall, the sale price was great. the guitar has a great feel and tone. i would highly recommend calling and asking for their best price, if you can afford it: jump. the newer custom shop guitars are great.

I Can really hear no difference in this
And the stratocasters you hear on classic records.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop L-Series 1964 Stratocaster Heavy Relic Electric Guitar:

Like the prior reviewer, I bought the green one in 2016 and have had it about one year. This is my first Fender Custom; I have about a half dozen American and Mexy strats to compare this one too. I love it. Agree with the prior reviewer than the relicing is overdone, which is unfortunate because the color is really gorgeous up close--Sherwood Green is definitely a color that Fender should bring back to the American line up. The overwound pickups are a bit noisy, but not bad. Very comfortable to play. Sounds great out of all my of amps--Marshall, Fender, Blackstar, Line 6, Vox (all tube amps), and Kemper. Only major complaint is the vintage truss-rod -- the adjustment screw sits at the base of the neck, at the body and underneath the pick guard, so it will be an absolute pain to have to adjust it. Haven't needed to yet--the set up was very good straight out of the box and only required minor adjustment.
