Don't Forget

A hot-rodded player's guitar with great feel and sound.

As part of Gibson USA’s 120th Anniversary celebrations, the Les Paul Classic Double Cutaway brings together the timeless elegance of the Les Paul Standard in a contemporary package offering optimum playability and tone.

The “DC” rendition of the Les Paul has long been popular for its extended upper-fret access and contemporary styling; now all that comes together with a pair of Gibson’s most popular pickups, streamlined controls for on-the-fly maneuverability, and a lusciously figured Grade-AAA maple top beneath a high-gloss Trans Red nitrocellulose finish. The result is a guitar that retains many great classic elements of its predecessors, while offering the enhanced performance that today’s hardworking guitarist demands.
Like all legendary Les Pauls, the Les Paul Classic Double Cutaway begins with a foundation formed of a mahogany body with carved maple top. Rather than the original single-cutaway design, however, this model sports a double cutaway body for extended upper fret access, with traditional weight relief to further enhance playing comfort.

The glued-in Grade-A mahogany neck is carved to a fast, slim profile measuring .800” at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. The bound Grade-A rosewood fingerboard touches upon tradition with its trapezoid inlays, and joins in the celebrations with a “120th Anniversary” inlay at the 12th fret.

A Burst Bucker Rhythm Pro in the neck position and Burst Bucker Lead Pro in the bridge offer unparalleled PAF-style tone, while master volume and tone controls and a three-way switch make it easy to dial in changes mid-riff. Anchor it all down with quality Grover tuners, a Tune-o-matic bridge, and stopbar tailpiece, and protect it in a Historic Brown Gibson hardshell case with Limited Lifetime Warranty and you’re good to go.

Featuring beautifully flamed maple tops, these Les Paul Standard Double Cutaways are instantly recognizable as true Gibson Les Paul, while also immediately standing out for themselves. Very limited run of 100 units per color. Includes hardshell case.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Limited Run Carved Top Double Cut Les Paul:

I always wanted a Les Paul Standard Double cutaway since I don't like the traditional single cutaway for upper fret access on leads. Finally decided to indulge myself when I saw the 2016 Limited Run in Heritage Cherry Sunburst. This is my 20th guitar and it was worth the wait. After I set up the neck and action to my liking to get rid of some fret buzz it plays like a dream. The pickups sing nicely. At 7.4 lbs. it is very comfortable to wear and play. Absolutely install strap locks since the neck side strap button is on the back by the neck joint and if you lean forward with it on the guitar tends to fall forward away from you. Not a guitar you'd want to fall and get damaged. I am very happy with this guitar and will cherish it for years to come.

  • Incredible guitar in all but one regard.

  • This is not "traditional" weight relief. BEWARE!

Comments about Gibson 2016 Limited Run Carved Top Double Cut Les Paul:

I had one of the carved top AAA flame top double cuts that came out in 1998. There were just a few things I wished Gibson would have done differently. Most importantly was, I wish it was not a "chambered" body. I wanted more of a traditional Les Paul weight and tone. When I saw this guitar I was blown away. All the issues I had with the original version had been addressed and , in my opinion, "corrected". I was THRILLED to read in the description "this model sports a double cutaway body for extended upper fret access, with traditional weight relief to further enhance playing comfort." Well, upon receiving the guitar I could tell by the way it felt and the way it sounded when I tapped on the top, this was NOT "traditional" weight relief. THIS GUITAR IS CHAMBERED!! It's basically hollow, short of a solid block down the middle of the body. I was unbelievably disappointed. Am I going to keep the guitar? Yes. Despite the chambering the guitar shows a quality and attention to detail that hasn't been found in Gibson guitars for many years. I had heard that they had stepped up their game on the new models. I was blown away with the playability, fit and finish, and features. It's a great guitar, but if you're like me and want the WEIGHT that makes a Les Paul sound like a Les Paul, this will likely disappoint.
