OVERVIEW

Rock-solid American made Legend.

The 2016 SG Faded T is offered this year with powerful pickups and time-tested hardware. This is a guitar that any SG fan would love to own. It comes in a choice of worn satin nitro finishes, all beautifully faded for a timeless look. The construction uses the same materials as its predecessor of 50 years ago with a solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck.

The neck marks the return to Gibson' traditional neck width that players prefer, using a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut for better sustain and improved intonation. The rosewood fingerboard is thicker than last year', offering a more solid playing feel, traditional tone and better sustain. Electronics feature Alnico-powered 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) pickups that produce everything from warmth to sizzling leads.

Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with performance that is smooth and efficient. The 2016 SG Faded Series T comes setup by factory experts and includes a padded gig bag.

Key features
The vintage tuner vibe with smooth, efficient performance
Retains the celebrated feel of the SG's lightning-fast neck
Density for solid sustain, self-lubrication for accurate return-to-pitch after bending - without string stick

Guard your guitar with padded protection
Subtle inlay elegance matches the guitar's essence
From purring warmth to sizzling leads, the Alnico-powered 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) pickups deliver true tone
Traditional tone, solid playing feel, and more sustain than ever

This is my first Gibson and I love everything about it. The guitar plays great out of the box and no set up was needed. The pickups are bright and articulate and the fit and finish are just really nice. Speaking of finish, I absolutely love the faded finish. I ordered mine in the faded brown finish and the guitar just looks like a beautiful piece of stained wood. Kinda like an old piece of furniture that's been in the family for a long time. Finally, I really like how Gibson reverted back to making "traditional" guitars in 2016 versus the new "modern" appointments they had in their 2015 lineup. Great job Gibson on listening to what the consumers wanted and on making a high quality instrument that the working man can afford!

I have played on and off for a very long time - love SGs - I have owned (counting this one) about 5. This arrived with a malfunctioning tuner and an either dead or improperly wired bridge humbucker. Gibson QC is obviously dead. Sad. BUT 5 Stars to Musicians Friend who refunded in full. I would say because MF is so good you can take your chances risk free - but no more new Gibsons for me. Sad.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

Found the neck "fat" for an SG, and the rear of the cutouts were not well-sanded - didn't even bother to plug it in. A "faded" finish is one thing, rough and ragged to the touch is another.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

First the bad: when I got the guitar the strings were dead from the 12th fret down because the pickups were set higher than the fret board. The bridge was set very high so the strings would clear the pickups, which resulted in VERY high string height across the fret board. The fret ends are rougher than any guitar I have ever purchased.

First impression was to return it. I have purchased several nice guitars during the past 30 years (Fender USA, Epiphone, etc) that were set up better than this Gibson. Every guitar usually needs some tweaking, and probably a pro setup by a luthier, but this was ridiculous.

Now the good:after spending more time than I wanted setting the pickups and bridge and tweaking the guitar, I decided to keep it because the guitar is well constructed, plays real nice, sounds awesome, and is worthy of a pro setup and fret job. The more I play it the more I like it. it's light, the neck is nice, and it stays in tune when I put it through its paces (deep blues string bends, and banging on it for hard rock rhythms). It's finicky, but its a keeper.

I expected a better setup from Gibson. They send you a checklist of the guitar inspection and a picture of the guitar in the factory, which is nice, but it would have been better if they actually did it right.

On one hand I recommend the guitar. On the other, I suggest caution and to lower your expectations just because its a "Gibson."

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

Wanted to try out this Faded SG; I own an Acoustic and a Les Paul, unlike those two, this SG Faded really played well right out of the box, with Gibson you get a picture of your guitar being set-up, kinda sweet... I do feel they took the time to do the setup correctly as it is dead on, action is perfect and tone is perfect. It's made in the U.S.A. and you can tell... spot on craftsmanship and at a price that almost anyone can own.

I bought an "SG '61 Reissue" when they first came out back in '13ish but my hand just couldn't get used to the gloss finish on the back of the neck. I bought this one based on the satin finish and I'm so glad I did. I'm a bass player from the mid sixties but started off playing guitar when the Beatles hit the US scene. And actually I've always been a Fender kinda guy, but have loved the SG design since way back when. So "buy what you love" and "love what you buy", and I do love this axe...

Honestly, I only picked it up and played it for 15 minutes before I got busy doing something else, but it seems to be set "right on"...good action, feels nice up and down the neck, no fret buzz or anything negative in the short time I played it. Looking forward to spending some "quality time" with this simple beauty!

SG faded is an SG, period. I have owned one for more than 10 years. It compares very well with my SG standard which cost twice as much. Unless you have to have a glossy finish, this is perfect.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

I picked up an older version of this guitar that was used but not abused recently and I'm VERY happy with it! I already own a 2012 Gibson Les Paul Studio that has been my main axe since I purchased it new but I saw this SG at really good price and thought it would be a good back up axe. Well long story short, it has become my main guitar...I still love my Les Paul and it still gets gig time...but the SG body style is so comfortable to play...it just fits...I'm kind of a small built guy and I can see why guys like Angus Young or Frank Marino have stayed with the SG for all those years! Not as "clunky" as an LP and can be worn a bit higher without looking silly. Neck and pickups are very similar to my LP as well. It is slightly neck heavy...slightly...it doesn't bother me when playing...I don't feel like I'm fighting to keep it in place or anything like that...unlike a Firebird which are REALLY neck heavy...but I wanted to be honest in my review... : ) I will be on the lookout for another one of these SG's!!!

Use this guitar for jamming around with buddies and around the house. I can really crank it up and it still sounds very good. No signal breakup and great sustain as with most SG's.

i guess i expected more for six hundred
this guitar appears to be made in 2016 and may have been sitting around MF for a while which is why they were blowing them out.
the fret ends were sharp like the neck had been drying out.
had to adjust the relief of the truss.
i am not happy with the tone of the pickups and unfortunately will probably end up changing them.
Again that is subjective to me.
It played good once i set it up a bit. I am currently using it it for slide and is open E tuned with a bit higher action

Great guitar, great price. Can't beat Gibson! Although I own and have owned and played many different brands and models of guitars I have owned and played a 1963 SG since high school and I love the model. I have owned and played a Les Paul and my preference is still an SG. The 2016 worn cherry I just bought plays and sounds great. After tuning I found that it came perfectly set up. The intonation was perfect. The Condition shows that Gibson produces a quality product. You can't go wrong with this guitar. You can only do better if you buy the SG's with the gloss finish.

I play in a garage band and was blown away by the sound and the playability of this guitar.
I was playing an epiphone les Paul and while I love the les Paul's found myself struggling with how heavy it was and the sound I was getting. This is a must have for any Gibson fan and you will love it

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

This is the SG for those who don't care for the traditional tapered neck. This one has a 50's rounded profile that's much more substantial than necks found on other models. I left a review on the 17 Special T that goes into more detail, but overall this is a great guitar. Factory setup was almost perfect, much better than on the '17 Special T. The 490R & 490T is THE classic SG sound.

Great guitar. I should have got this years ago. My Epiphone G400 is neck heavy but my Gibson SG is not. This guitar is very quiet I couldn't believe it when I first plugged it in. It's also the best sounding guitar I own both plugged in and unplugged. Sounds great unplugged. Sounds great for heavy stuff and great for clean stuff. Very happy with this guitar.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

Surprisingly light-weight. It almost seems like a toy, especially with the super-cheap plastic tuners it comes with. I haven't had a problem with it going out of tune, but the tuners look and feel cheap. Everything else is fine. The frets were nicely dressed. However, I would not recommend it as there are much better guitars you can get for five or six hundred which come with better tuners and an ebony fretboard: my Washburn solar and Schecter Blackjack sls (passive) are two examples. This is my least favorite guitar (for now) of the four I own, but I might get into it more if I switch from rythm to lead. I basically bought it for its lead tone, but continue to play mostly rythm guitar.
