Gibson Custom SJ-200 Elegant Koa Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Honey Burst 21336032

Few acoustic guitars command a room like the Gibson SJ-200, and the Gibson Custom SJ-200 Elegant Koa brings a spectacular new dimension to the legendary King of the Flat-Tops as part of the limited-edition Artisan Series. The AAA Sitka spruce top pairs with highly figured koa back and sides for a lively, articulate voice with sparkling highs, rich resonance and a warmth that continues to develop with regular playing. A mahogany neck with a comfortable Round profile and bound rosewood fingerboard delivers classic Gibson playability across the full 25.5" scale, accented by elegant abalone graduated crown inlays. LR Baggs VTC electronics provide natural amplified tone for stage and studio, while an abalone-inlaid two-bar moustache bridge, intricate back marquetry and iridescent SJ-200 pickguard elevate the presentation with exquisite Artisan Series detail. Gold-plated Grover Rotomatic tuners and a Gibson Custom hardshell case complete an extraordinary interpretation of one of the most imposing and recognizable acoustic guitars ever created.

Koa Brings Clarity and Dimension to the Powerful SJ-200 Voice

The SJ-200 Elegant Koa pairs a AAA Sitka spruce top with koa back and sides, bringing a distinctive tonal character to the commanding voice of Gibson's celebrated super jumbo design. Koa offers a lively, articulate response with sparkling highs and excellent definition, sharing some of maple's high-end clarity while developing greater warmth and complexity with regular playing. That clarity is especially well suited to the expansive SJ-200 body, helping individual notes retain definition within its powerful, resonant voice. The responsive Sitka spruce top adds dynamic range and projection, creating a rich acoustic palette capable of moving from detailed picking to broad, authoritative strumming.

25.5" Round Mahogany Neck for a Comfortable, Responsive Feel

A mahogany neck with Gibson's Round profile gives the SJ-200 Elegant Koa a substantial yet comfortable feel in the hand, while the full 25.5" scale provides a firm, responsive string feel that complements the definition and projection of its large body. The bound rosewood fingerboard features a 12" radius and 20 standard frets for a smooth, familiar playing surface, with abalone graduated crown inlays adding an elegant interpretation of a signature SJ-200 detail. A TUSQ nut provides a precise contact point for the strings, while a traditional dovetail neck joint anchors the neck securely to the body using one of Gibson's time-honored acoustic construction methods.

LR Baggs VTC Electronics for Natural Stage and Studio Tone

Factory-installed LR Baggs VTC electronics make the SJ-200 Elegant Koa ready to carry its expansive acoustic voice into amplified settings. An Element undersaddle pickup works with an internal preamp to capture a natural, dynamic representation of the instrument for live performance, recording and rehearsal. Volume and tone controls sit discreetly along the edge of the soundhole for convenient adjustment without interrupting the guitar's ornate exterior with a side-mounted control panel. The streamlined system adds practical acoustic-electric versatility while allowing the SJ-200's distinctive craftsmanship to remain front and center.

Artisan Series Details Elevate the Iconic SJ-200 Presentation

The natural figuring of the koa back and sides provides the foundation for an exceptionally detailed Artisan Series presentation, highlighted by a three-rope marquetry strip running down the center of the back. A rosewood two-bar moustache bridge—one of the SJ-200's most recognizable design signatures—is elevated with abalone bar inlays, while the tortoiseshell-colored pickguard pairs abalone dot inlays with a silver-foil stamp that shifts vividly under changing light. Abalone Gibson logo and crown inlays adorn the bound headstock, complemented by gold-plated Grover Rotomatic tuners and multi-ply body binding. A TUSQ saddle and bridge pins and a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete a presentation worthy of the King of the Flat-Tops.

The King of the Flat-Tops, Reimagined in Koa

Since its debut in 1937, the SJ-200 has occupied a singular place in Gibson history, its powerful projection, tonal depth and unmistakable visual presence earning it the enduring title of the King of the Flat-Tops. From singing Hollywood cowboys and country stars to folk pioneers and rock legends, generations of performers have made its commanding voice and larger-than-life style part of stages and recordings around the world. Part of Gibson's limited-edition Artisan Series, the SJ-200 Elegant Koa carries that tradition forward through a distinctly luxurious lens, pairing the expansive character of the super jumbo platform with the clarity, evolving warmth and dramatic figuring of koa. With AAA Sitka spruce, traditional dovetail construction, stage-ready LR Baggs electronics and exquisite abalone-accented appointments, this Gibson Custom creation offers a richly individual expression of an acoustic legend.
