Comments about Gibson M2 Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar to mod. The guitar feels and plays great but the pickups, electronics and tuners are low quality. The pickups are good for heavy gain but I do not like how they sound for anything else. I have done extensive mods and now the guitar is top notch. If you have a bad back or shoulder and can not handle the weight of a Les Paul then this is the guitar for you. It will cost you to bring it up to a gig worthy level. I changed the electronics, added a Tonepros locking bridge and some SD pickups. It is now my go to guitar because I love the feel of the neck. This is a great starter guitar too. I will say there are better guitars out there in the same price range but once a few changes are made it is very nice. I probably could have just change the pickups and achieve the same sound results. the other changes were not made out of necessity but rather preference. I like locking tuners and a locking bridge. I only changed the electronics because I like to use a Liberator to make changing pickups a breeze.

Comments about Gibson M2 Electric Guitar:

Great neck, good player's guitar. I have the ugly green one. Terrible color, but a nice change from my other guitars. Sounds way better than I expected for the price, Strange!

Comments about Gibson M2 Electric Guitar:

Got this cool little guitar for my birthday 5 months ago. Had to change the pickups, the Epiphone pups were kinda muddy and I didn't like the switch. The body is plywood like most less expensive guitars, however, the guitar sounds wonderful with the EMG's. To be sure, this is not a Les Paul, not even close. Very bright sounding with a very fast and comfortable neck, the fret edge is a little sharp, but that is true on my 2014 Peace also. The tuners work very well and the guitar stays in tune better that my Paul's. The bridge is a bit hard to deal with but plays good, not fun to change the strings it's neck heavy so if you let go of it while standing it drops. This is not a guitar I would give a beginner as it is not a "ready out of the box" guitar, not a lot of care taken before shipping. This is one of my main gig guitars now as it is lightweight, sounds incredible, tunes easily, and cost 2 grand less than any of my other guitars. Great rock guitar.

maple-tiger-stripe neck! bridge fix

By professor chill

from El Paso, TX

Pros

  • holds tune
  • maple-tiger-strip-neck!
  • white mother-of-pearl 2-ply pickguard

Cons

  • fix the sloping bridge
  • get bigger, traditional barrel-head knobs

Best Uses

  • blues dirty
  • country clean
  • jazz-fusion clean
  • rock

Comments about Gibson M2 Electric Guitar:

The teal finish is kind-of light blue to me. But it's real nitro-finish, with satin nitro on the back of the neck. The 2-ply white mother-of-pearl pickguard is a tight pattern like old Rogers or Slingerland MOP drums. The 1-piece maple neck came with beauty maple-tiger-stripe all the way! The rosewood fingerboard is nice quality (fewer pores) with a great fret-job by the new Gibson pleck system. And I like the neck which is just a tad thicker and wider than on a Gibson Firebird Zero. The M2 set-neck at fret 16 gives it a little more stability and sustain, too. I've been fine with the tuners; lots better than the 1960s Melody Maker tuners. Like many others, my bridge-endpiece sloped a bit and would dig into the light nitro finish if I adjusted it down. But I got a locking endpins set from philadelphia luthier for eleven which did the trick, let me adjust lower, and gives even more sustain. I popped in a different trussrod cover with 2-ply black-white (instead of all-black), and bigger black barrel-head volume and tone knobs. Great lighter-weight, with a Gibson rocker sound, but a little less output than double-slug Gibson Firebird Zero pickups. Thus, I get a little more sweet clean sound when I want it, but can still rock. Thanks to the Gibson plant for slipping in a high-end maple-tiger-strip neck on my M2! Overall, the best deal for a great new Gibson - ever!

Great guitar for the money

By Guitar Guy

Comments about Gibson M2 Electric Guitar:

I own many guitars, and while this might not have the expensive top and fancy finish of a 3k+ gibson, it's a really solid and worthy instrument, and a nice addition to the collection.

Firs off, my guitar arrived with a great set up, ready to play. Frets are great, pickups are noiseless and hot, and it plays like butter.

Love the look, and the raw wood neck feels great in my hand.

The guitar is loud when it's unplugged. Really liking the resonance and tone of the poplar body.

I've been playing it hard all week and it stays in tune great. No need to swap the tuners.

Love this guitar and think its a great deal.

Comments about Gibson M2 Electric Guitar:

For the price, the M2 exceeded my expectations.Super light with a surprisingly easy feel once set up, the pick-up's sounded better than I expected as well. Foe a bare bones made in the USA guitar, this will allow you join the Gibson family at an amazing price point, for a beginner, this is a great starter giitar, but also usable to the gigging musician as a solid back up. I might add new tuners and possibly change out the bridge if I was going to make any improvements.
