OVERVIEW

They don't get any more brutal than this.

The SG CM Black is Gibson's take on full-bore, high-octane, metal mayhem. And it delivers.

The satin ebony finish gives it an understated, menacing look, while the Dirty Fingers+ humbuckers deliver high-gain brutality. It features a mahogany body and neck, Grover Kidney tuners dressed in black chrome, a composite fingerboard red side dots (no front inlays), a rounded neck, a Floyd Rose top-loader bridge and locking nut and a split-diamond headstock inlay painted red.

Comments about Gibson SG CM Black 2016 Limited Run Electric Guitar:

I purchased the one guitar that I wanted for the entire 2016 model year and had high hopes but they were squashed immediately upon unpacking the guitar. The guitar has a Floyd Rose system on it and with that comes a locking nut. When the locking nut is not aligned to the neck as in it is hanging off the lower edge of the neck with an indent on the upper edge of the neck, that is bad, very bad. Due to this, the guitar can not stay in tune. Since this is a Floyd Rose locking nut, it can not easily be fixed due to how they attach to the neck versus a standard nut on a guitar that is glued in place. I took this in for Gibson Warranty work and they have not started on it yet however they are questioning whether it can be fixed without further damaging the guitar.

Comments about Gibson SG CM Black 2016 Limited Run Electric Guitar:

I am really into guitars that have satin finishes and no neck binding for their feel, so this SG Black has been on my radar for awhile. I was about to order the Les Paul version of it from Germany as I thought they were all sold out. I kept looking for the SG Black, and when I saw MF got some in stock, I pulled the trigger. The fit and finish are excellent and I am really loving having a Floyd on a Gibson. My favorite Gibson pickups are 57's, but I am really enjoying the Burstbuckers on this guitar because they sound like the guitar looks. Mean! None more black and I could not be more pleased. Welcome to my fleet of guitars SG Black!

Comments about Gibson SG CM Black 2016 Limited Run Electric Guitar:

My luthier's dad passed so I haven't had it set up yet for a complete review. The whammy bar is a little sticky now, but I'm sure this will be remedied with the setup.

A whammy bar on an SG - awesome! It appears to be able to set up as floating, or stopped.

The lack of fret inlays was a concern, but the side dots are bright red and really pop so this has not been the problem I expected - easy to navigate.

I found the composite fret board to be surprisingly similar to ebony.

This guitar seems to be getting along with my other SG's - plays well with others, lol.

Comments about Gibson SG CM Black 2016 Limited Run Electric Guitar:

These are amazing guitars, especially for the price! The frx double locking bridge is pricey by itself. Throw in the Richlite fretboard from the Custom Shop and a pair of Dirty Finger pickups and this thing is a shredders dream come true! Can't wait to get this thing in the studio!
