OVERVIEW

A checklist of great Gretsch features.

No nonsense, Electromatic hollow-body guitars are the perfect real, pure and powerful Gretsch instruments. They’re your next-step Gretsch—bold, dynamic and articulate, and crafted with essential Gretsch sound, style and playability.

Sleek yet aggressive, the G5422T has a thinner, fully hollow build with a true Filter’Tron voice that captures the resonant hollow-body sound with a more present and chiming voice. Like all Electromatic guitars, it delivers the fearless and electrifying authenticity that has set Gretsch apart as the quintessential rock 'n' roll guitars from the very beginning. It's the sound of honor itself—play proud. Case sold separately.

I've owned a few guitars in my time, usually less expensive models I took on deployment and left there for the guys when I came home. Now that I've retired, I thought I'd buy a REAL guitar. This is my 1st Gretsch and my 1st quality guitar. The music that comes out of this guitar is absolutely wonderful. For fullness of tone and body it would be hard to beat. I bought a color that's no longer pictured here, Cadillac Green. The pic's don't do this guitar justice. Absolutely gorgeous.

Back to the guitar. Buy this guitar and you will not be disappointed. Take it from an old war horse that would never steer his troops in the wrong direction.

I bought this guitar because I knew Gretsch made a good guitar. I was disappointed after hooking it up to my amp and trying to get a decent sound out of it. I had all the knobs on the guitar cranked up to their highest position and didn't get much of a sound out of it. At least the sound was not as loud as my Ibanez with the amp at the same level. I had to fool with the pickups because all of them seemed to be cranked all the way down. After moving them up to within 1/16" for the high strings and 1/8" for the low strings I started to get a louder sound. Over the next couple days I kept fooling with the pickups to try and get good sound out of each string. I finally got a half way decent sound out of all the strings but the third. It still sounds a bit muffled compared to the other strings. I am considering changing up the strings because the ones that come with the guitar are a little heavier than I am used too. The action is still good on the guitar, and the high notes play clean but I believe I can move quicker with lighter gauge strings. I am also hoping that the strings are causing the sound problem with the third string. If I am allowed to do this without it affecting my return options I am going to do it. Otherwise I will probably just return the guitar.

Incidentally the guitar sounds pretty good when I finger-pick, it's when I flat pick that I notice the poorer sound quality. It could be because when I finger pick I don't use any picks on my fingers, just the flesh of the finger tips for a softer sound.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422TG Electromatic Double Cutaway Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

the strings which were dead and tarnished. They deposited oxide all over my fingers. How that happens on a new guitar I do not know. Once I changed them for some quality (LaBella) jazz strings everything was as I remembered my old Gretsch sounded and played. The Filtertron pickups are definitely better than the Generitrons of the less expensive models.

At first I was on the fence about all new semi hollowbody guitars and I have played many and not being impressed. But reading reviews and stats on this Gretsch and it being a full hollowbody I was curious so I made the purchase and after a week of playing and tweaking the various tones with the controls I am in love with this Gretsch because it filled all the sound gaps I was missing with other brands....I'm keeping this one seriously

I use the guitar for practicing and jamming. I haven't used any effects pedals with it yet because I want to see what I can get out of it clean. My major concern is the Adjustomatic bridge. The first guitar MF sent was defective (bridge was broken). The second one came intact but still seems to need tweaking. I am going to work on the bridge to see if I can get the strings to seat better. If not, I will replace it with something better. Overall, I am happy with the guitar for the price I paid.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422TG Electromatic Double Cutaway Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for a little over two months now. It started out great and It's only gotten better as it settled in. I can't find anything wrong with my guitar, it came to me flawless. These guitars tend to do better with heavier strings, 10's being the minimum, 11 and up preferred. Heavier strings cause more movement of the arched top and better resonance. I've noticed that a couple of people commented on the output of the pickups being lower than pickups found in some solid body shredder guitars. This is not a heavy metal guitar, the lower output is by design, and have better dynamic expression than extremely high output pickups. This is a while different animal, singular in a good way, it's a Hollow Body Electric Guitar. I get tremendous expression out of this guitar, it can really cry and sing. The pole pieces on the pickups can be raised or lowered to dial in each string output. Factory strings sit on a guitar for what can be a fairly lengthy time, oxidation can build up and make your fingers black, because they've never been played. This is the best guitar I've ever owned, and I own a lot of top drawer guitars. Get a good setup right away, this is always necessary for a new guitar bought online. I've found a wealth of information on Gretsch guitars on The Gretsch Pages online forum.
