OVERVIEW

A distinguished instrument from the earliest days of the British Invasion.

Made famous by The Beatles’ George Harrison, the 1962 Country Gentleman is the sound of rock ‘n’ roll. The Vintage Select ‘62 Country Gentleman has the unmistakable sound and style that marked the beginning of a musical invasion. Sonically, this guitar is ready to tear it up with flexible tone that fits any musical situation.

A pair of TV Jones Classic pickups responds to every pick stroke or strum with refined, articulate tone. Traditional Gretsch controls—including per-pickup volume controls, master volume, a three-way tone switch—allow you to create countless tonal variations for a personalized tone. The new Gretsch “Squeezebox” paper-in-oil capacitors deliver silky vintage high end.

The standard “U”-shaped maple neck bears a 12”-radius ebony fingerboard with 22 frets and zero-fret for a memorable playing experience that works with any style. The sealed body with simulated F Holes minimizes feedback while providing for authentically vintage tone. A pinned “rocking” bar bridge reacts in concert with the Bigsby B6GVT vibrato tailpiece for stable tuning while the bone nut lets the strings slide freely without binding in the slots.

A true rock ‘n’ roll classic, this guitar features the appointments that made this guitar a legend—dual foam string mutes with red felt surrounds, standby switch, laminated 3-ply maple top with simulated F Holes, gold “G Arrow” control knobs, aged white binding with black purfling, gloss urethane finish, aged pearloid thumbnail inlays, gold vintage thick plexi pickguard with Gretsch logo and gold Grover Imperial tuning machines. Includes hardshell case.

No Expense Spared - Just a Very Fine Guitar

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122T-62GE Vintage Select Edition 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

There's a reason that Chet Atkins and so many other rockabilly and country artists preferred this guitar over the tried and true Telecaster, Gibson ES and other hollowbodies of the era. In the right hands, this guitar is just an amazing tool. I've been playing almost 40 years and I don't do it justice. But, it sure makes me want to try.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122T-62GE Vintage Select Edition 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

for me...this was THEE guitar, when I first saw it February 9, 1964. The instrument and the Beatles motivated me to learn to play and I did...and I still do. Years later I was fortunate enough to get a small inheritance and I decided I wanted to get a great instrument. I saw a clip of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and there it was again. I purchased the guitar over 10 years ago and I still remember opening the case...WOW...and then you play it and it becomes clear why George Harrison, among others chose this guitar...it is unbelieveable in every way, the look, the sound, the detail in construction and the playability. This is the real deal...never been happier with a purchase...this is the one.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122T-62GE Vintage Select Edition 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I own four other Gretsch guitars and love them all. This is the first Country Gentleman. I received this in about 3 days from Musicians friend. Unpacked the guitar and it was perfect. Set up was good. Finish was excellent. I am very pleased with the guitar. It is beautiful. This rounded out my collection on Gretsch guitars.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122T-62GE Vintage Select Edition 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar with a unique sound thanks to the TV Jones pickups and the custom guitar muting system. As a big player (6'4" and big hands) the neck is very easy to play. Others had commented about the width of the U shaped neck, but from the first moment I picked up the guitar it was like an old friend. The factory setup was perfect for my taste; action low enough to allow smooth fast playing but high enough to allow for great sustain and no fret buzz. The fit and finish are absolutely excellent. This thing is just so darn pretty! I agree with the other review regarding the size of the heel where the neck joins the body in that it does affect playing higher notes (they certainly aren't as easy to get to as with Strats and SGs), but a change in technique easily overcomes this. This guitar adds an entirely different sound to my repertoire since it is so unique and different from my Strats, SG, Les Paul, and other guitars. The tone switch is a nice feature and in its biggest notch has a very nice smooth compression type sound. When played through my Vox AC30 it's reminiscent of that 1960s Beatles sound, and anyone that goes that far back will remember Harrison actually playing a guitar like this on the historic night in 1964. The case that comes with the guitar is sturdy and well built too. This is a guitar I can recommend without reservation. Buy it and have fun - you won't regret it!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122T-62GE Vintage Select Edition 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Incredibly great action. A joy to play! Tonal qualities range from deep and rich to high and sharp, and something in between gives you that true George Harrison sound. Impeccable workmanship! A most beautiful instrument; I keep it on a guitar stand next to the Vox amp so I can worship it even when I'm not playing! Owning a Country Gentleman has been my lifelong dream, and to have the vintage edition 1962 model is a dream come true!

I wanted to duplicate some of the Chet Atkins music that I have from his early days to his last days and this guitar makes that possible. Been saving up for this purchase for around the last 41 years and it was worth the wait! ! !
