OVERVIEW

Light enough to be comfortable, heavy enough to provide tone and sustain.

Ibanez's marvel of form and function, the S Series, continues to evolve for today's player. Cloaked in a dramatic burst finish, a rosewood fingerboard features jumbo frets. Lurking beneath the S Series graceful 3-D shape is mahogany specifically chosen for S Series instruments.

Light enough to amaze in terms of comfort, heavy enough to provide the tone and sustain that players expect from the S Series. As the originators of the thin, fast neck, the Wizard III neck is yet another achievement in playability, providing the kind of comfort that translates to responsiveness and speed. Quantum pickups, along with 5-way switch, provide an impressive palette of tone textures.

With the Edge Zero II tremolo, the most extreme sonic acrobatics can be fearlessly performed with confidence that the guitar will effortlessly return to perfect tuning.

This is my first guitar with a locking whammy bar, despite many years of wanting one. I have to say, I normally don't write reviews, but the other two reviews at this time are so unjust and silly.

This guitar is easy to set up, despite the locking Edge-Zero II system and my inexperience. I have the weathered black one that they don't seem to sell on Musician's Friend. It is thin and light, and therefore easy to handle for people with smaller stature or back problems, to say nothing of gigging musicians who don't want a heavy guitar on stage. The stock electronics are great, and I can't see myself changing pickups or other parts in the future. The neck is small, but the jumbo frets and seemingly wide neck makes the guitar very easy to get around.

This guitar is no slouch, and it's really fun to play. I've been wanting an Ibanez S for a while, and I'm so glad I finally have one.

By far not the best Guitar I own

This guitar looks great and sounds good. But the neck is so wide its hard for my little hands To fit around. With a smaller neck this would be a great guitar

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

On the G string, between the 9 th and 12 th fret, tone is suppressed and distorted because the neck resonates on a harmonic frequency.

Also, all notes played on the E string, from the 18th fret onwards are suddenly suppressed for the same reason.

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

Have no idea what the guy who is getting 'suppressed' notes in his review is talking about. Mine sounds awesome up and down the neck. Guitar has a lot of balls and quite a few tone selection options. It's also very light and ergonomic. It's great if you are having to play standing up for a long time for whatever reason. Stays in tune very very well. Is a great value IMO as it sounds as good or better than a lot of guitars that are a lot more expensive.

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

Before I go any further, I'm giving this guitar a 5 for the PRICE.

Obviously it won't compare to more expensive models, but lets get into this a bit.

It's extremely versatile. In terms of tone, you can really get a solid sound for just about any style. I primarily play rock and metal, but its blues sound has value for practice purposes as well. Personally, I don't like a finish on the neck so that natural wood feels good on my hands. The guitar maintains its tuning very well. I was skeptical about buying an instrument with a floyd rose (Yes I know it's the Ibanez tremolo II) but it really does maintain its tuning once locked. For anyone looking to get an instrument to jam an practice multiple styles on, this guitar rocks. It will also play rock and metal shows and sound pretty good. Bottom line, I can't imagine too many better multi-use guitars for this price point. Hope this helps!

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

I love my S. Body style, neck feel and action are highest points. In response to a previous reviewer complaining about a "neck resonance causing muted/distorted tone", I experienced this as well and discovered that the bridge saddle on the G string was too high, and the angle of the string over the saddle caused the problem. I filed the saddle down a bit which solved the issue. Absolutely no other action issues or buzzing after that, even with extremely low action. The other issue i discovered was a poor soldering job on the 5-way pickup selector that caused an obvious problem with a very dark/muffled tone. I resoldered the connections, and then could finally see what the guitar sounded like. I had planned on replacing the stock pickups, but was very pleasantly surprised by their tone. I added a treble bleed circuit and was extremely happy with the resulting tone. I had to fine adjust the intonation as well. I have been playing it for several years now and it is my favorite tremelo guitar (the tremelo on these is silky smooth and doesn't have any play/wobble in it). As with every guitar I have owned, there's a bit of initial setup and/or tweaking that I just expect, so I wasn't put off by these issues. The result is a guitar that sounds and feels and plays as well as or better than most guitars of much higher price range, especially right off of the rack. I'm considering buying a hard tail S now....the S body style is the most comfortable of all of my guitars. I highly recommend anyone considering an S series, to DO IT!

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

I recently bought this guitar off this site and am pretty happy with the performance of the instrument. It feels really smooth and loose, and it's very light. Chords are okay to play, but single note soloing is where this instrument excels. The pick ups are fine, not anything special. They're not muddy or harsh, but not particularly articulate or warm either. The biggest problem was fret buzz on the high e string on the first fret. It was pretty bad, but the guitar came with the appropriate alan wrenches, so I was able to change the angle of the neck and get rid of it, so it's not a big deal.

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

Much, much more than I expected. I grabbed it because of the next and the cool weathered black finish. Found it on sale, and couldn't pass it up. Right out of the box, the action was amazing. Couple that with the thin Wizard neck, and it feels like you're fretting a butter knife. Super quick and smooth. Pickups are average, but I use a modeling amp, so it makes zero difference to me if they're high-end. I can make them sound like any amp/pickup combo I want.

Highly recommend this guitar. Probably my favorite of the five I have today.

Comments about Ibanez S Series S520 Electric Guitar:

I have played around on various Ibanez S guitars in guitar shops for years, always thinking that I would like to get one at some point. So, I finally did with the help of a nice MF sale. I got the sunburst, great looking. The guitar was solid, but needed a little setup work which is normal for most new guitars. I do that stuff myself so no big deal. Got the action comfortable (medium low) for me, setup the locking trem which works well. I use 9-42 gauge strings which is what Ibanez ships these with. They suit this guitar and work well with the tremelo system. It plays very well and stays in tune. Sound is very good, I left the stock pickups alone after playing with the height adjustments a bit. So, all in all, I am quite happy with this guitar. I find myself reaching for it more and more for general playing, because it is extremely comfortable and ergonomic, sounds really good, and is pretty light. Recommended, as long as you know what this guitar is all about. It's not a Jazzbox or a Tele. I have been doing this long enough to know what I like, this guitar is a good addition to my small collection.
