This guitar was an unexpected surprise for me. I've never liked Ibanez but this guitar had the specs that I wanted. Basically it is Ibanez's take on a PRS styled guitar. The stock pickups were okay but didn't sound that good at gig volumes and had feeback issues. I replaced them with a new Seymour Alt-8 at the bridge and an Alnico II pro for the neck. Now this guitar is just unbelievable. It has climbed its way through my other, more expensive guitars, to become my #1. The thick maple cap makes for a very tight tone even under high gain. It also adds complexity to the overall tone. It sounds big enough distorted that I sold off my all mahogany Les Paul. It even sounds great clean! Very crisp and pristine tones that you'd expect from a strat. I imagine the thick maple cap had something to do with that. However, I've talked with people who have had COMPETELY different experiences with this guitar than mine. Some had told me their SZ520 was very light, which odd because mine is very heavy for its size. So in conclusion I don't think all SZ's are created equal. I'd go out, play a bunch and find the one that sounds best. I think I must of lucked out. My SZ sounds like a much much much more expensive guitar. Word of advice: replace the pickups with real duncans, it will make a big difference.

This is a low quality Korean made guitar. It looks great on the website, but after playing it for a while I am very disappointed. It was almost impossible to get the neck straight enough to play without the strings rattling or having them to high. Lots of feedback from the pickups makes it hard to turn it up loud without a noise suppression pedal. Spend a little more money for a higher quality.

Really nice all around axe

Best guitar for the money. Great neck, pick-ups sound great and the sustain lasts an eternity. I use this guitar for all my recording. Recently purchased a Jackson RR3, which cost $150 more and ended up bringing it back. I like Jackson guitars, but for the money.... no comparison. The only draw back is that the meatal coating is wearing off of the bridge and the bridge pick up after only about a year and a half... but thats only a visible thing and obviously doesnt affect the playability. Love this guitar and plan on keeping it a long long time.

Metal lives in this guitar

By Juggernaut-lOFhO

I've had this guitar for only a couple months & can't manage to even want to put it down!!! This axe simply awesome!!! It just let's your fingers flow effortlessly up & down the fret board. The string through body allows it to stay in perfect tune. I haven't to really mess with the tuning since I tuned it the 1st time. As far as sound goes you can crank out heavy shreddin' metal or you can back down & play clean & switch it back up just like that. It's a very versatile guitar & small framed to boot. If you're lookin' for diversity in your instrument you need not look any further than this Ibanez!!!!!!!

I'm very pleased with my Ibanez. Looks killer, Plays like butter. sounds good jazzy as well as full on rock. sweet tones. I even scored a lefty! I looked and tried a lot of lefties befor I finally found this one. Man I'm glad I kept looking! Kicks Stratocaster a** all day long, twice the tone and half the price! way less than the LPs and sounds as good.

This guitar is as good as it looks. Very easy and fun to play. I've thought about buying a new guitar for years, but never found one that would beat this one. It sounds amazing out of any amp, and is worthy of the price tag.

Ibanez SZ520QM Quilted Maple Electric Guitar

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought my Ibanez SZ520QM about 6 months ago at a local store and I haven't looked back since. I also haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. I absolutely love it. The picture doesn't do it justice, the deep green looks stunning and the ibanez inlay on the 11-13 frets is great! It was a bit wierd to play without any markers inlayed into the neck but you pick it up fast. This guitar really helped me step up my playing to the next level. In 4 years of playing I've never played a better sounding guitar than this. I play it on a Crate FXT120 (which is a great amp). The pick-ups are amazing, great sustain and perfect for harmonics and bi-manual playing (you can really get it to squeal!). The neck is great, the toggle settings are amazing (though I'm not crazy for the middle setting, but then again I never have been on any of my other guitars either). I play a lot of everything for music and this guitar has exactly the right sound for anything. To sum it up, this guitar would be a perfect addition to anybody's arsenal. You won't be disappointed!

Full sound and leads don't get lost

By Frank-GbvtL

I wanted a G&L but after playing this guitar I was hooked. I played MANY in its price range and nothing came close. It plays great and sounds great. I had a Les Paul Standard and I would take this over the Les Paul any day.

Sweet axe!

Ive had this guitar for about a year now, and Im still blown away everytime I pick it up. Its gotta great playing neck and fantastic sustain. The only problem I had with this axe is the pickups; dont get me wrong they sound fine but I put a Seymore Dunkin Blues pup in the neck and a Seymore Dunkin Distortion in the bridge. So lets just say the sound of mine will blow any outta the water. All in all, this axe is a killer and I highly recommend buying one.

Fantastic Axe

By jasko

from Albuquerque, NM

I wrote my first review of my SZ520QM after owning it for just a few days. It's been almost 2 years now, and I love it more and more. I bought one for my brother (the best guitar player in the family) and it became his favorite, too, beating out strats and teles. I shop for guitars because I like to look at them, but never feel the need to buy because nothing compares to my blueberry beauty. Terrific, versatile tones, a neck that I only appreciate more as my skills improve, sustain forever, stays in tune...and gorgeous to boot. There are fret markers on the top edge of the fretboard for those of you who fear life without inlays. This guitar will not let you down.

BEST GUITAR YOU CAN BUY

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

About 3 weeks ago I purchased this guitar, and let me tell you, I have played everything from highway 1 fender telecasters to jacksons hollow bodys and this is the best guitar I can find. THe pick ups are extreamly versital, and when you put the pick up selecter in the middle position, they sound like single coils. This is definatly the best guitar I could find for the money. and I would never get somthing different!

The ultimate shredder!!!

By Meathook peelsreven

I love this guitar I have had mine for over a year now. If you play it in drop tunings it will hold a clear tone either clean or overdriven. I love the natural harmonics of this guitar and the feel. It is a well balanced guitar with awesome tone!

Give it a chance!

I went guitar hunting back in July and the SZ520QM is what I ended up with...mostly because Ive played Ibanez before and loved 'em. Mine has the inlay all up and down the fretboard and not just on the 11-13th fret. It took me a few weeks to really get used to this guitar but now that I have, I love it. I had it set up to my taste and it feels awesome! Cant believe I was ready to get rid of it and get something else! I did however give it a "4" rating on the quality because of the pickups. Kinda cheap and microphonic but they'll do until I get a chance to put some Dimarzio's or EMG's in it.

Nice Axe!!!

By KRaKAdyLL

I was shopping around for guitars, my choices were PRS SE and Shecter. PRS was the sound I'm looking for but not the looks. I tried the green IbanezSZ520QM by god it was awesome and the feel too. I switched pickups and it sounded like a Custom PRS like the sound and looks I'm looking for. The best for it's price. The stocked pick ups are OK but I recommend to change it to SD JB4 and by golly you'll never let this go!

Sweet ride...

By Malletman

from Racine, WV

I own several guitars...ibanez, schecter, fender. This one is right up there with the others. I have to admit, it's a toss up between the Schecter C1 Classic and this one. The pickups are a LOT hotter than the Schecter's. One thing that this guitar does have that the Schecter doesn't is sustain. You feel like you could hold onto a note for a minute or more...just keeps going. The feel is nice as well. The neck is a little fatter than my other IBZ's, but the frets are EASY to get to. Electronics aren't fancy, but they get the job done. Love the dual volume. If you're looking for something to just outright shred with, this is it. Great buy...get it.

Really good guitar

By FrankGun

from west atlantic city, NJ

Before I bought this guitar I couldn't put my les Paul ultra down. When I got this I was not thrilled with the way it sounded plugged in. I swapped the bridge pickup for Seymour Duncan custom and haven't put this guitar down since. It is a great guitar I rarely play my ultra anymore. If you get this guitar you will have to switch the pickups but trust me it's worth it.

Pretty nice!

I played one of these today in the store. What I liked was the treble response it had, and the color and the natural binding. I didn't check sustain, but the C-1 Classic that I tried has an insane amount of sustain (very Les Paul-like), so I don't know if I can compare it to one. Anyways, it felt good, tuners worked good, and the dual volume and single tone controls were OK. There was no pickup splitting, so that seems to be a drawback, sort of.

If It Was A Woman I'd Marry It.

Bought the flame-maple option secondhand from trademe for NZ$800. This guitar was my dream guitar for years and years through high school and last year I finally bought one. I know Gibsons, Fenders and PRS's are technically better guitars. But not by a huge amount and I loved the versatility this guitar has offered me. It has excellent sustain, a very smooth action and stays in tune really well. It also has some seriously sexy curves and overall look right down to the headstock and off-white binding. The only semi-gripe I have with it is the position of the pick up selector. I switch from neck to bridge very often because I switch between rhythm and lead often. Maybe it'd be better if the selector was positioned further toward the neck pickup. Also I might throw some EMGs or Seymour Duncans (mine didn't come with Duncans) just to had a bit more grunt to it. Other than that this guitar is just amazing.

Great guitar!!!

By Guitarman101-aIZN.

I got the Ibanez SZ520Qm (blue one), and have had it for 7 months. I play in the youth band at my church, and this guitar has not failed me yet. I play it practicly every day. And it even sounds good on my "first act" amp. I would reccomend this guitar to beginner, to expert.
