Traditional Spanish craftsmanship with cedar and spruce top options.
Built for advancing students and serious players alike, the Manuel Rodríguez Academia AC40 Zebrano Classical Guitar combines traditional Spanish guitar-making techniques with carefully selected tonewoods and refined player-focused appointments. Crafted in Europe and built around a genuine Spanish heel construction, the AC40 delivers the responsive feel and resonant voice associated with traditional classical guitars while incorporating premium features often reserved for higher-priced instruments. Available with either a solid Canadian cedar or solid spruce top, the AC40 allows players to choose the tonal character that best complements their musical style. Both models share laminated zebrano back and sides, premium bone components, an ovangkol fingerboard and bridge, a factory-installed GEWA armrest and German-made Hannabach strings. The result is a versatile classical guitar designed to support years of study, performance and musical growth.
Cedar and Spruce Top Options
Available with either a solid Canadian cedar or solid spruce top, the AC40 allows players to choose between two classic soundboard materials favored by generations of classical guitarists. Cedar is known for its warm tonal character, rich harmonic content and quick responsiveness, while spruce offers a brighter, more focused voice with strong articulation and dynamic range. Regardless of top selection, each AC40 pairs its solid soundboard with laminated zebrano back and sides, creating a balanced and expressive instrument suitable for everything from traditional classical repertoire to contemporary fingerstyle playing. The result is a versatile platform that allows players to select the tonal personality that best complements their musical goals.
Traditional Spanish Heel Construction
At the heart of the AC40 is a genuine Spanish heel design, one of the defining elements of traditional classical guitar construction. By integrating the neck and body through a unified structural design, the Spanish heel contributes to efficient vibration transfer throughout the instrument while enhancing overall stability. This time-honored approach remains a hallmark of many respected classical guitars and helps provide the lively response and resonance players expect from a well-crafted nylon-string instrument. Combined with the guitar's 650 mm scale length and carefully balanced body design, the result is a comfortable and musically responsive playing experience.
Premium Materials Throughout
Beyond its core construction, the AC40 incorporates a range of upgraded materials that enhance both performance and appearance. An ovangkol fingerboard and bridge provide durability and smooth playability, while a bone nut and bridge inlay support accurate intonation and efficient string vibration transfer. The six-hole ovangkol bridge promotes secure string installation, and the real-wood body binding and multi-piece top purfling add refined visual detail. A decorative wooden soundhole mosaic further reflects the instrument's traditional classical-guitar aesthetic, while gold-plated tuning machines with black buttons provide reliable tuning stability and elegant styling.
Designed for Comfortable Performance
The Academia AC40 is designed to support developing technique and long practice sessions. Its full-size 4/4 body is well suited for older students and adult players, while the factory-fitted GEWA armrest promotes a more relaxed playing position by reducing contact between the player's arm and the guitar's top. The environmentally friendly high-gloss polyurethane finish protects the instrument while allowing the natural beauty of the woods to remain visible. Factory-installed Hannabach 815HTC Silver Special strings with carbon trebles and high tension provide a responsive feel and articulate projection straight from the factory.
Over a Century of Classical Guitar Tradition
Since 1905, the Manuel Rodríguez name has been associated with classical guitar craftsmanship rooted in Spanish tradition. Representing a blend of historical expertise and modern design sensibilities, the Academia series reflects that heritage while remaining accessible to today's players. The AC40 embodies this philosophy through its combination of traditional Spanish heel construction, premium tonewoods and performance-oriented features. Whether studying classical repertoire, exploring fingerstyle techniques or advancing as a nylon-string guitarist, the Manuel Rodríguez Academia AC40 Zebrano classical guitar delivers the sound, feel and craftsmanship needed to support continued musical development.
