For many years I have been an acoustical purist and have resorted to buying and playing guitars based on acoustical projection, clarity, tone and playability. I have avoided acoustic-electrics because none of them ever sounded right to my discriminate ears. That is until I accidentally found this little beauty in my local music store. It was love at first play and now my whole outlook has changed. Not only does this guitar acoustically sound and play well, the onboard Fishman electronics are truly amazing. Martin struck a homerun/hat trick with this model. The action and feel of this guitar is smooth, fast and sexy with that traditional Martin sound. The inlays and workmanship are what you would expect to see on much higher priced Martins. This instrument fits the bill of my fingerstyle classical, jazz and blues style and anything else that I can play on it. I highly recomend this to any guitarist for live and studio work!

Sound: Good sound. Not the loudest unplugged, but it has some volume. I think gloss finishes always dead'n the resonance of a top. Playability: I like the thin neck very much. Very easy to play. Action is set low on the one I played so it makes it nice for any type of soloing. However, I think low action always takes away from the "good" tone of an acoustic. But this is being bought to be plugged in right? Construction: Very solid guitar. Not a fan of gloss finishes, but again, very solid construction. Electronics: I didn't get a chance to use the electronics but after having owned the Dreadnought Aura Imaging pedal, I'm sure Fishman did a great job w/ this preamp. Overall: I'm a budget guy so I would never buy this guitar. However, if you have the money, it's a decent guitar, but there are others out there FAR better than this for less cash. I have always felt Martin was overpriced and overrated on a majority of their products.

Martin DC-Aura

By George Betor

from Los Angeles Ca

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was in the market for a Gibson J-300, and walked into Westwood Music, in ca, when the owner(Fred, who is a great friend) knew that we were recording our second project, told me to try the DC-Aura. I began to flat pick, then strum, then finger picked the guitar, and bought it. It has been my number 1 on stage and studio ever since.

D-41 with cutaway and Aura!

By Billshoup

from Brandon, SD

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I couldn't be happier with the DC-Aura. I've always wanted a D-41, but with a cutaway and great plugged in sound. In my opinion that's exactly what this guitar is - as visually beautiful as a D-41 and I'm extremely happy with the Aura - great, flexible plugged in sound. Of course it got Martin tone when played acoustically as well. I played some Taylor's I loved, but in my opinion, if you're going to play live or record, the Aura is in a uncomparibly better than Taylor's expression system.

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My main gig guitar was my Martin DCRGTE. I loved that guitar. It is still a very good guitar. But, once I picked up the DC Aura I had to buy it. It lives up to all expectations. Sounds great unplugged or thru any amp thanks to the on board electronics. By the way, It one of the most beautiful looking guitars I've ever seen.

Awsome Piece of Art

By Fast Eddie

from Tulare, CA

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I justed purchased this baby yesterday. And have played with different amps at the store. So far my best sound was with a Fender Acoustic ultrasonix SFX amp. I could not beleive the sound. When you play with blending knobs. It sounds great I just wish it would have come with a brochure or manuel of some kind. For info on the Fishman Aura electronics. There was just a cleaning and stringing your guitar brochure. what. Also, when you pay over $2500. for a piece of art like this you should get some kind of authtication statement. For future value of the piece and original owner. Other than that I will keep everyone posted. Learning and writing some new songs. This makes my Taylor CE714 sound like a second rate intstrument. And I was really looking at another Taylor. You guys at Taylor might need to step it up.

WOW...

By wastedfishstix

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a work of art. The highs are clear, the lows deep and dynamic. The ascetics are amazing, detailed down to the pegs. When plugged into an amp it doesn't sound like a guitar through and amp, it sounds like a louder version of the guitar your playing. The aura system is also incredible. My one complaint is that in order to use the tuner you have to be plugged in. Over all this guitar is a must buy and even though it is expensive consider that when you get it you will have it, and love it for the rest of your life.

Martin DC Aura

By hip80

from Virginia

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville with my eye on a Taylor 810-CE LTD. I left the store with a Martin DC Aura. I wanted an acoustic that could also be played electricly. One strum of a G chord on the Martin (unplugged) was all I needed. This guitar rings like a bell, sustain is incredible, and the visual beauty is stunning. The electronics are very cool with lots of sound options. The built in tuner is also a major plus. I couldn't be happier with my decision to purchase a Martin, and I'd recommend this model to anyone. I've never heard an acoustic with such a big sound.

A real sleeper Martin

By rmyAddison

from Texas

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Had my DC Aura a few weeks and I love it. Action needed to be lowered but this baby plays like a Taylor and sounds like a Martin. It's wonderful, and I have a D18 GE to benchmark it against, pretty stiff competition. Originally thought this would be a stage guitar only, but I grab it as much as my GE anymore.A beautiful, great sounding, easy playing, underpriced Martin.

DC-16RGTE

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If you want a punchy, deep sounding guitar that will smoke most Martins, buy this. Most people start looking at the style of Martin before they even pick it up. If you play this guitar without looking at the type of Martin then you'll be blown away. It has the old x-type bracing that was used on the pre-war D-28's. Rosewood it where it's at no matter what the style of guitar.

Excellent Guitar

By Roger-y6Ris

from Raleigh, NC

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

When I first got this guitar I noticed the superb clarity. The larger body gave added base, a feature most Martin's seem to lack. When playing this guitar its so clear I had to get use to playing more precisely since every note stood out. The more I play this guitar the more I love it. I also own a Gibson J45 and love this guitar more than the J45. If you can afford the price you won't be disappointed.

Best Value in a high end guitar.

By Greeng2

from Poplar Bluff, MO

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is definitely a high end guitar. It has a black headstock with Abalone script, a beautiful blonde spruce top bound with abalone, and a super high gloss finish everywhere. The Alvarez DY90 used to be known as the "Super Abalone". I think this guitar could be named the "Glossy Super Abalone". It is simply one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. You would have to move up to the D-41 to get this much "pretty" on a Martin guitar. This guitar is different from most other Martins, as light gauge strings are recommended. Action is low and fast, similar to a Taylor 810ce, and sound is loud and strong, typical of a good Martin. In fact, if you shut your eyes and played it, you'd be hard pressed to tell that it was a cut away. Just very good loud tone.

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After visiting every shop I could and playing Taylors, Gibsons, and other Martins, I found this superb axe. When you play a good Martin you can feel the vibration in your whole body; this thing matches any D-28, D-35 or D-45 I ever played. It has more deep guts than any Taylor I've seen, and is incomparably clearer in the treble than any Gibson. The Aura amp system is much more versatile (and programmable) than Taylor's ES.On top of all that, the DC-Aura is a truly gorgeous piece o' wood. This is the finest instrument I've ever owned in 44 years of playing.

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted to trade in my '83 Strat '62 reissue - for what I didn't know. When I shop, I don't need to pull an acoustic guitar off the wall I thump the low E string. If it gives me that "boom", I test drive it.Well I couldn't put this Martin down. It sang as my fingers glided over the strings because of the superb action. It has tonal quality that you will find in the vintage Martins beautiful resonating low end and clear crisp highs. The onboard electonics was a secondary feature for me because after 2 hours of working this baby out - I plugged it in and again quality as well. The tuner...you need to have a jack plugged in to activate it - bad idea.

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a very fine instrument. I was unsure about the electronics on this guitar and did not know much about the onboard Aura system. Needless to say, this guitar produces some of the richest tones and clearest notes of any acoustic guitar I have played. This guitar is a good mix between state-of-the-art electronics and classic Martin quality.

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. Warm tone right from the start. Responds well to your playing dynamics plugged or unplugged. Really good projection for this size guitar. Simply a beautiful, elegant-looking instrument. Plug this thing into a sound system and you will be blown away. We have an inexpensive sound system at my chuch. The day I bought this I plugged it in and listened as the worship leader played through old James Taylor tunes. We didn't even touch the EQ. Wow. Surprisingly, this guitar responds just as well to finger picking as it does to hard strumming. Single note lead lines cut through the mix even with a full band. Also, I play often with a worship leader who plays a Taylor 714CE and I find that the two guitars really compliment each other quite well. Very different tones that blend so well. It's also comfortable to play standing or sitting. Great deal for a guitar that should be getting more attention. And the jealous stares I get from other musicians when I pull this baby out of its case is an added bonus! LOL.

Comments about Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had my DC Aura for a couple of months now, and have really grown to LOVE it. A little tough at first finding a "sweet spot" on the electronics, but once I had the settings, I had a guitar that sounds very natural live. This guitar is a pleasure to play, stays in tune, and is very comfortable to handle. Be careful with the electronics...you can really get some broad tonal ranges and sounds, finding almost "too much" adjustment capability here. As far as looks...you get one of the prettiest Martins for the price!
