LX guitars are lighter, louder, richer, and fuller.

The 2778LX Standard Elite Contour Guitar from Ovation's LX Series features A-grade solid spruce top and a smooth, hard composite Lyrachord GS body that has improved projection and reflects top vibrations better than traditional material and is now even stronger and lighter. The exotic wood leaf-shaped "epaulets" are inlaid into the top with laser precision.

Designed to fit the contour of the guitarist's body, the Standard Elite Contour has the feel of a smaller bodied musical instrument. The LX scalloped bracing pattern evenly supports the top to provide the ultimate in acoustic output.

The OP-Pro preamp system was developed to work specifically with the unique Ovation Patented Pickup. This professional grade pickup system has been engineered to complement the unique character of Ovation guitars. The OP-Pro includes a 3-band EQ and a built-in tuner.

Great Value

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is my second guitar. The first was a starter Yamaha F325 that had very good tone for a laminate. The O for me was a giant leap in terms of quality and sound. Unplugged it is not as bassy as the dreadnought but has a nice balance.I have my New England Burst plugged into a Kustom Sienna 30. The sound with the EQ engaged is sweet. The action is a bit high as comes with 3 shims. I removed 2, but that resulted in a bit of buzz (hard strummer). I put one back and now the buzzing is gone. I also changed the strings to light guage (11)The contoured back is very comforable. (I only play siting) The hard case and onboard tuner is a great value too!It has given me a temporary cure for my GAS.

unbelievable acoustics

I could not be happier with my 2778LX standard elite. From the minute I tore it out of the packing (like a kid at christmas) the finish is spectacular ( I have new england burst) After a quick once over to check for scratches or dings-none)I grabbed my tuner with guitar in lap, and laughed at the fact that I wont be needing that here.(onboard tuner) As I was tuning I was thrilled with the natural acoustics. Hard to believe with a composite body. I played for @2hrs. Action was just slightly higher than my les paul. Another mindblower for an acoustic. Took it to practice the next nite and just as I thought; another mindblower. sounds awesome thru the PA. Every string is perfectly balanced while amplified. not one more dominant than another. The EQ is simple and versatile. Its fast becoming my favorite. hats off to ovation.

Perfect is the word

This instrument is a dream come true , but not with the original heavy strings. With a set of high quality light strings this guitar is absolute perfection . I did adjust the fingerboard(neck)to increase the bow slightly and the speed is simply amazing. I would absolutly recomend this to any serious professional.

Do not buy this guitar!

By Brad N

The Standard elite contour model is advertised as being "light" and feeling like a smaller instrument because of the contour (these two features sounded appealing to me), but when I got,it felt like strapping a refrigerator to my body, it's heavy and stands out about a foot from your body. The action was a full 1/4" off the fret board, bar chords were impossible. I play a full size Martin, professionally, for hours everyday...I'm used to a big guitar with some weight and I'm used to neck action that is slightly high...but this was horrible, oh, and the binding was peeling off. If you want an ovation, buy an AE148, great action, lightweight, same good looks as this mammoth! I returned this guitar right away.

Very Dissapointed

So I am thinking that this is the deal of the century. A U.S. made guitar for way less than half off retail. First off. Nice solid case. Beautiful out of case. I bought the New England Sunburst. Absolutely beautiful finish. Did I say it looks beautiful? Wanted so bad to love this guitar. Felt comfortable in lap. Based on looks did not want to give it back. Sound? Big time dissapointment both with and without amp. Very thin sound unplugged. Very tinny sound plugged in. Wow, what a dissapointment. Read all these reviews for Ovations and I was expecting the same reaction when I got my Breedlove. Maybe it's that I have a Breedlove that makes this Ovation seem so thin sounding. I was wanting a different sound, only a high quality different sound. The sound out of this Ovation is very underwhelming. The action is NOT low. I feel as though I would have to spend some bucks with Luthier to make the intonation and action right. It did not look used, but it looked like it was out of box before me. I played it for 15 minutes at lunch. Came home after work and tried to love it again for another 15 minutes. Same impression. Hate to part with it based on looks alone. Called for Return Goods Authorization. Very dissapointed. Was hoping for so much more. Even at great price, I had to send back. Also, did not care for plastic smell.
