SIRE Larry Carlton A3 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst

The Sire Larry Carlton A3 Dreadnought acoustic-electric guitar is a refined take on a timeless design, marrying powerful projection with enhanced playability. It's the model that kicked off Sire's acoustic-electric lineup with legendary guitarist Larry Carlton—and it remains just as relevant as ever. The A3 Dreadnought pairs a roasted solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides with modern features like rolled fretboard edges for a broken-in, custom shop feel. It's built for players who demand both rich resonance and a comfortable feel that encourages extended sessions. Whether you're tracking in the studio or performing live, the A3 delivers the goods with a refined blend of style, power and articulation.

Roasted Spruce and Mahogany for Vintage Warmth

The A3 Dreadnought starts with a roasted solid spruce top for a more open and responsive tone, similar to the seasoned wood found on vintage acoustics. It's matched with a mahogany back and sides to reinforce the midrange and add woody warmth, giving this dreadnought its signature punch and depth. The large-body profile offers excellent bass response and volume, ideal for players who place a premium on bold dynamics and strumming power. Whether unplugged or miked up, the A3 delivers a familiar and versatile tone that sits beautifully in any mix.

Edgeless Rosewood Fingerboard for Effortless Playability

One of the defining features of the A3 Dreadnought is its Edgeless rolled fretboard edges—Sire's custom shop-style refinement that gives the rosewood fingerboard an ultrasmooth feel. Combined with a comfortable C-shaped mahogany neck and 25.5" scale length, the A3 is immediately inviting in the hands. The 16" radius ensures easy fretting, especially for barre chords and fingerstyle work. This design promotes fatigue-free playing for long sets, rehearsals or writing sessions, while still supporting technical articulation when needed.

Stage-Ready Sire Electronics With Impressive Flexibility

At the heart of the A3 Dreadnought's performance capabilities is the Sire SIB preamp system, combining an undersaddle piezo pickup with a built-in condenser mic. This dual-source setup gives you complete tonal control with a natural, dimensional character—perfect for live gigs or direct recording. With intuitive controls for master volume, tone and mic blend, players can easily shape their sound on the fly. Whether you prefer crisp articulation or a warmer, more ambient tone, the A3 adapts to your needs without requiring external gear or extensive tweaking.

Beyond its tonewoods and electronics, the A3 Dreadnought is built for durability and aesthetic appeal. It features a rosewood bridge, a bone nut and saddle for improved string energy transfer and chrome Sire acoustic die-cast tuners for reliable tuning stability. Herringbone binding adds a vintage-inspired visual element that subtly nods to high-end traditional acoustics. With its classic construction and understated design cues, the A3 walks the line between modern functionality and old-school charm with ease.
