Overview
The 1976 Martin D-35 is a sought-after vintage dreadnought featuring a distinct three-piece Indian rosewood back, Sitka spruce top, and narrow (1 11/16") mahogany neck. Known for a balanced, resonant, and "sweeter" tone compared to the D-28, this mid-70s model typically features lighter 1/4" bracing, an ebony fretboard, and enclosed chrome Grover tuners. Design & Sound: The D-35 introduced in 1965 with a three-piece back and narrower bracing, providing a rich, full-bodied, and highly responsive tone ideal for strumming and fingerstyle. Specs: Features a 25.4" scale length, ebony bridge, and often comes with a distinctive blue-lined hardshell case. Condition Factors: Many 1976 models feature non-adjustable truss rods. Common, often-repaired issues for this era include "Martin cracks" (near the pickguard/B-string), neck resets, and bridge reglues. Value: Well-preserved examples are considered excellent, "broken-in" vintage players, often cited as a more versatile alternative to the D-28 of the same era.
