Eh decent enough.

By Monterey Purple

Comments about Yamaha FD01S Acoustic Folk Guitar:

This was my beginner guitar and it was decent enough. A humidifier is very important if you want to keep this guitar in good shape. The action tends to slip up around the 12 fret after a while, which is very annoying especially when you're trying to play blues. If you're REALLY into Dylan, this guitar is an ok choice to start with but for anybody else, I highly suggest you get either an electric starter kit or just another company. Yamaha is great at making a lot of things but if you're serious you should buy from a company that knows guitars and nothing more, nothing less.

Nice 2nd or Beginner Guitar

By Anonymous

Comments about Yamaha FD01S Acoustic Folk Guitar:

I was looking for something to keep lying out in my office and around the house w/o worrying about it being damaged. When this guitar appeared I jumped. Yamaha's quality, even that of their lesser grade guitars, has always been outstanding and this guitar turned out to be no exception. Stuff that you might expect to be inferior on an inexpensive guitar, like tuners, are just fine. Action out of the box was good, a slight adjustment of the truss rod (instructions included with the wrench - a nice addition for the novice) made it near perfect. Intonation is right on. Features like a compensated bridge saddle and solid spruce top are a great bonus on a guitar in this price range. The neck is a little thinner than I like, but it's great for those with small hands. The sound as well was a bit thin on the low end, but that was mostly corrected by replacing the strings. I've gotten the best sound so far with a set of Elixer 80/20 lights. This would be a great first guitar for the beginer. There are no playability issues that would prove frustrating or hold one back. As a second guitar for beating around and practicing, it's perfect. Again, the playability is there even if the sound isn't 100% optimal. I don't think you can go wrong with this one.

Comments about Yamaha FD01S Acoustic Folk Guitar:

Unbelievably nice guitar for the price - I got it on a clearance sale and it feels like I stole it, but it would have been a great buy at regular price. I also have the F335 which has a laminate top but is a dreadnaught so a little better bass, but the FD10S sounds great with the solid top and is easier to play with its slightly smaller body. If you are looking for an inexpensive guitar that sounds and plays great, this is it.

Comments about Yamaha FD01S Acoustic Folk Guitar:

I bought this guitar as my first acoustic guitar. The finish is absolutely amazing and has a sort of sparkle to it. It has a really nice tone, and the stock strings sounded really nice. Naturally since its a solid top, the tone will begin to get sweeter as time goes by. This is a great first acoustic for anyone, or just a great acoustic guitar by itself.

Comments about Yamaha FD01S Acoustic Folk Guitar:

I bought this because I had traded the only acoustic I owned. It came with a solid spruce top, keep in mind you're buying sound not beauty). The top, while almost white in color and pretty bland, projected sound very well. I installed a set of D'addario 13's, cleaned and rubbed the neck a little. tuned it up and the guitar sounds really good! A couple years in the sun and the top will color up and we'll be in there.
