OVERVIEW

The Alesis Fusion is ready to be the future of your home studio with constantly evolving sounds and updated OS!

The Fusion 6HD boasts a revolutionary operating system, the Fusion OS, that is constantly being refined by Alesis and its developers to bring you the ultimate workstation available. It also brings together 4 different synthesis types with a 61-note semi-weighted keyboard, 8-channel hard disk recording, sampling, effects, lots of expansion possibilities, and full-blown sequencing in one awe-inspiring machine.

At the heart of the Fusion 6HD is the Coldfire processor surrounded by 7 high-performance DSPs, giving you 4 synthesis types: sample playback, virtual analog, FM synthesis, and physical modeling. The sample playback synth type provides ultrarealistic play for instruments like grand pianos, drums, and guitars, etc. You can even make your own custom synth instruments by loading your own samples with the onboard sampler. The virtual analog synth brings you the sounds from the award-winning Ion and Micron virtual analog synths, as well as the actual-analog A6 Andromeda. FM synthesis gives you the ability to emulate many well known synthesizers of the 80s. For the physical modeling section Alesis uses the most advanced technology available today for synthesizing wind and reed instruments with incredible clarity.

The Fusion is the only workstation of its kind that can save and load programs off a hard disk (or the removable CompactFlash memory). By storing all your sounds on the internal disk you'll always have your programs available to you. You'll never have to load samples off a slow CD-ROM or floppy-disk.

You can also record up to 6 channels of 24-bit audio to the 40GB hard drive. The internal sequencer lets you edit your MIDI and multitrack recordings together just like on a computer. DSP effects can be applied to MIDI, audio, or both. You can transfer your mixdown to a computer via USB 2.0.

Upgradeability includes internal RAM (up to 192MB).

An incredible unit for professional recording studios, project or home studio, and even live keyboard players.

Latest Fusion update!

Fusion OS is a completely upgradeable platform that will continue to improve with each and every release. There are now hundreds of new program sounds, mixes, and arpeggiator patterns, with more free sounds available via download. This update as well as all future updates to the software and the sounds can be found at: http://www.alesis.com/index.php?id=58,59,0,0,1,0

While I love many of the sounds and features on this synth, it is poorly built, very poorly built. The first day I had the synth the sound would cut out or the volume would significantly decrease as I played. Also, the Pitch and Mod wheel lights would flicker. After a few days I sent it back and got a replacement. This one was fine for a week then began having power-up problems. I would turn it on and it would begin to power-up and would just shut down. If I tried a few times it would start fine so I was hoping it wasn't a major problem. I was wrong. After a couple of weeks of the power-up problem occurring nearly every day, the lights flickering/sound cutting out started, as with the first one. Plus, the LCD screen would go blank or would flicker, as well. What good is this piece of equipment if it doesn't work properly 75% of the time. I would not recommend this synth to anyone. I don't believe that it is coincidence that I got two of these with the same short circuit problem but that it is an overall manufacturing issue with the Fusions. I honestly believe that this will become an issue for many Fusion owners, and the extremely poor quality of this synth will be exposed with time, forcing Alesis to properly build it.

What An Awesome Synth

By aeross

I bought the 88 keys version of the Alesis Fusion Keyboard and in a word it is AWESOME. The weighted keys feel great to the touch. The interface is easy to get around after a few sessions to get use to it. I downloaded the tons of new patches (sounds) and the newest OS available for free and I think they have definitely increased the value of this keyboard. I highly recommend you get the new patches and OS. I am very happy with the pianos, strings, guitars, synth/brass ... sounds. Be sure to check out the demos around on the web, there are lots of them. If you enjoy programming and tweaking sounds this has got to be a dream come true for you. And man, for the price it's hard to go wrong.

I just picked one of these up and a wedding present. The real world instrument fall short of those of the motif or fantom but the synth sounds are very strong. The recording features on this keyboard make it worth buying.

best workstation

By life is better in stereo

from Del Valle, TX

The Alesis Fusion 6HD is the best workstation I've ever used. Having recorded with a Roland XP-80, a Roland Fantom, and a Motif, I can say that this workstation is easy to use and has more features than I know what to do with. Within a few hours I was recording and editing like I'd had it for years. The Quantizer works flawlessly. For the money you won't find a more capable machine.

This Thing Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

By Kick ass original band member!

from Newport News, VA

When I bought this about 3 months ago and began to use it, it was a little bit complicated. But once I started to understand how to use all of the features, I was amazed at the superb quality of the synth, and also the 8 simoultanious track audio recorder. This piece of equipment is the key element in recording and producing in my band. Also adding Synth tracks and overdubbing additonal audio tracks is so simple. If you have a computer with decent software, I would recomend this to anyone who wants to turn a room into a profesional recording studio. It ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Ubersynth

With 4 sound generating engines the Fusion is the most powerful synth on the planet for the money. There is nothing at four times the current price that touches the wide range of sounds that it can produce. It's like having most of an Ion, DX-7, and high end sampler in one sleek , silver package. If you are into sound design, please check it out.Oh and it also has physical modeling and hard disk recording. Do some research before you buy. But once I checked into it I have been so happy to own this machine.

Great board for the price

By gnapier

This is a really great value. You can record up to 32 midi channels on the sequencer and also 8 tracks of digital audio and control it all with a push of a button. This is a very user friendly workstation, and much smaller and lighter that others in this catagory. One thing you should know when you get this, is that if it comes with the older operating system, you will need to purchase a compact flash card, because to upgrade the thing, you must use the card, despite what the manuel says. You will want to upgrade if you get one with the 1.01 operating system like I did, because you will not be able to use the many free sounds available.

What More Can You Ask For?

This is one of the greatest boards I have dealt with in its price range and even boards double its price range. The only problem that I have had is learning to use the abundant features of this board. In its first attempt at a bonafied workstation Alesis has given us a product that my have beaten the obsolete curve with the ability to upgrade the operating system as updates become available. Great Board.

Outstanding Keyboard

By Azul Platano

There is no board out there with the hard drive and memory capacity that this comes with. The translator software lets you convert other sampling formats and wav files to use on this board. It is amazing for the price. I would recommend this board to anyone. If you want to have a really great time combine a Fusion with a Roland VP-550 and you will loose all track of time.....

Cadillac synth with a Hyundai price!

By Duane O'D

from Oroville, CA

Wow. With OS 1.22 and the Hollow Sun sound sets, this synth blows everything else, at this price point, out of the water. The keyboard action feels really nice. The sounds are extremely expressive, inspiring, and moving. I've owned over 50 keyboards since my first Wurlitzer electric piano in 1964, and this Fusion is an outstanding value. It's unbelievable that you can get analog modeling, FM synthesis, physical modeling, sampling, a 32 track sequencer, and a 40 gig hard drive with 61 keys for under a grand.

The whole shebang

By jrf2112

from Saint Louis, MO

With OS 1.22 this thing comes alive. Got it from Musicians Friend as a B-Stock unit for $850. Arrived in perfect condition but OS 1.01. Very buggy. 1.22 loaded with CF card and now it sounds better than anything I've heard. Excellent keybed. ADAT out is killer. I wish the screen was a little higher resolution and it had ADAT in. Other than that I couldn't ask for more.

On It's Way Back

I couldn't contend with how bad the drum sounds sounded. Weak volume in this keyboard when running an appegiator sound or using it with audio from my digital recorder. Just didn't match up volume wise.I do look at that I am not a keyboardist, and never messed about with one of these things that much.Friend of mine who is a keyboardist said the Roland Juno G would be a better way to go so I ordered a Juno G and like it far far better than the Fusion.I like the Manual of the Juno G much better as it is more understandable to me who is not a keyboardist other than I know the chords and scales on piano. The Synth/Workstation allows me to add many various things as I love Psychedelic Music.
