    Comments about M-Audio Hammer 88:

I have tried nearly every weighted 88 key midi controller. I always owned Studiologic boards, but there latest isn't in stock. My last was the Numa, but it did not have both a pitch bend and mod shell so I sold it.

So the Akai MPK88 was way too stiff. The NI S88 looked cool, but the keys were a bit slow and heavy feeling for my taste, and ultimately the Komplete Kontrol software was a pain, and didn't work with Vienna Ensemble Pro. I also tried the Arturia Keylab 88, which had great build quality, but the keys were super noisy and not very responsive. Its onboard controls were great except the drum pads which felt cheap.

So how does the M-Audio board compare? Amazingly great. I was super skeptical considering its lower price point, and let's be honest, M-Audio doesn't have the best reputation for controllers. But, I had a coupon to use, and some backstage credits to burn. It is packed a bit minimal, so potential for it to get banged up in delivery. Mine arrived fine. It is pretty light in weight, but feels sturdy. Metal and plastic body. Simple design with just the essential wheel controls and music stand! 3 pedal inputs which is super cool. I can use my expression pedals which is awesome!! How does it play? Perfect. Fine, it doesn't have aftertouch, but really? That is the most inaccurate method of expression. I'd rather use a dedicated controller for it. The key action is great. Just the right weight, low noise, fast response. The surface feels great. I immediately played through some Keyscape, Omnisphere, and Pianoteq presets and knew this was the one.

I'll end saying, I am picky with piano key action. For its price, this one cannot be beat. It is a home run for M-Audio. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5, is they haven't released the software editor which allows you to setup splits and tweak other settings.

      Comments about M-Audio Hammer 88:

I was leary at first but pleasantly surprised. The keybed is very nice. The feel is great and the keyboard is solid. It doesn't have a lot of extra buttons, but the board is what I need. The hammer action is nice.....
