The GelRest is a revolutionary concept which uses the remarkable form-fitting properties of gel to finally make your violin chin rest a comfortable place to "rest." Gel gently molds to your chin and is non absorbent, so sweat and dirt are easily removed. The GelRest is extremely durable and its contoured, non-slip surface makes holding your instrument effortless under all playing conditions. Installation onto your chin rest is very easy via the peel-and-stick adhesive. Great for viola too!

Comments about GelRest Violin/ Viola Chin Rest Pad:

This chin rest pad is fantastic! The gel material is very comfortable and it fits my Kaufman chin rest very nicely. It seems quite sturdy and I like the black color. I have tried different chin rest pads over the years and have never quite found one that I liked until now. I highly recommend this product. I intend to stock up!

Comments about GelRest Violin/ Viola Chin Rest Pad:

I've been playing the violin about four years and it has been a struggle to find a comfortable chin rest and shoulder rest. This chin pad is an improvement in my chin rest setup.

Comments about GelRest Violin/ Viola Chin Rest Pad:

It's not quite wide enough for my chin rest. About 1/4 inch short is all, so it doe not affect playability. You could see part of the chin rest after it was applied. But, it serves the purpose and makes it much easier on my chin. I can play for a couple of hours without any fatique now.

A good idea, if properly installed.

Comments about GelRest Violin/ Viola Chin Rest Pad:

It's thinner than it looks in the photograph. And the instructions are somewhat clear but I would like to add an additional suggestion. When you open the package before you even pull the tape off the back of the pad to expose the adhesive, ensure that your chin rest is taken off the instrument and that you have completely de-oiled it of any facial oils, finger oils, excetera..
that might be on the chin rest.

To do this initially I used isopropyl alcohol which was not sufficient. I stuck it on using the isopropyl alcohol to clean the grease off of the chin rest and by the next morning it was not adhering.

So what you do is you get acetone

(follow the ventilation instructions to the letter which are usually printed on the can of acetone)

Wipe down the chin rest with acetone. Acetone will take any grease whatsoever off of the chin rest - then you remove the adhesive backing which is paper and you apply the pad to the chin rest.

The pad still hasn't come off. The key is the acetone - absolutely of paramount importance - if you want this thing to properly adhere and to stay adheared to the chin rest.

P.S. since some wooden chin rests may be made out of Ebony or Rosewood which contains its own particular oils it may not function as well as intended because those oils are inside of the wood and come to the surface over time. I applied mine to a plastic chin rest and after properly degreasing facial oils off of the chin rest it worked wonderfully.
