I've been using a CT-100 for about 2 months and I'm ordering another just to keep in the studio.Years ago I fasioned my own cable continuity tester for 1/4" and XLR cables and spent, I'm sure, well over 20 bucks in parts. Not only does Behringer's CT-100 have more features than my old "Dave's-Do-It-Yourself 1000" (ok, I just made up that name), but it accomodates nearly every cable you'd want to test for live or studio sound setups. Here are (in my view) the main pluses:1) Visual and/or audible indicators - NICE2) Intermittent indicator - VERY NICE3) Portability and durability - REALLY VERY NICE4) Value - AMAZINGI've found that the CT-100's manual covers all the high points quite clearly although a basic understanding of electronics is gonna be helpful here. I don't baby my gear and my CT-100 continues to function after two months of pretty solid gigging - I wouldn't recommend using it as a door stop, hammer or stepstool, though.BOTTOM LINE: If you looking for a cable tester, get the Behringer CT-100 - not the "Dave's-Do-It-Yourself 1000".

The instructions... well, there really aren't any. To make your life easier, what follows is what the lights mean:

for guitar cables tyhe lights should look like this (X = lit, 0 = unlit):
x xox
x oxo
x xox

for XLR (microphone) cables:
x oox
x oxo
x xoo
Does what it's supposed to do
Very solid. No worries about damaging it.
This price? An excellent value. I've wasted WAY more replacing cables needlessly...

Great Little Tester

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

I am a tech for a school district with a number of auditorium and portable sound systems. I use the cable test feature every time I repair and fabricate cables, and appreciate all of the different connectors that are provided - and the "intermittent" memory feature is very useful. The test tone with different levels provides a go/no go test for audio inputs, but a sine wave would have been nice - although I realize that signal is more costly to produce. I have marked the XLR jacks as to pin function, which would be a nice improvement if Behringer did that. All in all, however, a great value.

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

I use this to test before a gig, and again at the gig just to make sure a gremlin doesn't pop up. I discovered an intermittent cut-out in a 50' mic cable just minutes before we started, and was able to repace it in time. That one time paid for the unit, and gave me peace of mind. Well worth the price!

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

Like I said, if you run FOH for anything or if you simply have more than one cable you depend on, this is the deal. It's a clone of a more expensive unit, but IMHO just as good. The first time I took it to setup, the guy at the board said he wasn't getting signal out the mains. I just took the box back to the board, unplugged the mains & sub and ran the tone through the snake - Voila! subs and mains had tone coming through. I looked at the guy and said "it's working from here all the way to there, the problem is in front of you." I tried not to be too smug, but without that box, we would have spen a half hour swapping channels on the stage box and checking all my stage wiring or convincing the guy at the board it was his problem. I am a happy man. BONUS - I like the intermittent test ability. How many times, especially with guitar jacks, does a cable test good, only to have it short as soon as you move it around. YOU NEED THIS BOX!

Little documentation on how to use

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

First the screw on the back for the batteries is so cheap that it stripped when I went to unscrew it and put batteries on it. This was totally frustrating as i just barely pulled it out of the box to try it. Second their is little documentation on how to use it. It has a small little 4 page users guide that doesn't give much information on all the features. It leaves you a little confused on how to actually use it. Im sure i'll figure it out through trial and error but I was not totally impressed by it.

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

I am very pleased with this tester. Wish I'd have bought one sooner instead of tring to troubleshoot by individually testing each wire and process of elimination. It did take a bit for me to figure out what the lights all mean because not all xlr cables are wired the same. But after some use you will quickly discover that this tool is priceless!

This is a good tester. I had been using a digital multimeter for all my testing, which is time consuming. This little thing is handy and fairly easy to use, (as long as you understand what the lights are telling you). Other than not having any "true" instructions this is a good tester. I wish it could test usb cords as well.

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

I had to test some good cords to see what the leds should look like on the good cords and that was fairly easy but why not put it in the tiny instruction book.
I really like the intermittent test.... connect cord, push intermittent button, shake cord and watch it cut out.
This was explained in the 4 page manual but not the basic function..
Works good for me and I would recommend highly for the price.

Quick and easy testing of audio cables of most types. Excellent tone generator feature to help calibrate levels in your setup. Only minor complaint is the battery cover which needs a screwdriver to open. But, as often as you'd need to exchange batteries this can be overlooked.

I use the tested to test and repair cables used by the worship teams at our church. Great vallue for the for it's cost. I have purchased and used other Behringer product with great success. They are a quality product.

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

Easy to use and saves time and effort when troubleshooting. I was using a "Monster" cable that was apparently shorting out, and after checking it with this unit, I was able to determine that the problem was actually in the output jack of my instrument. I saved the cost and hassle of mailing a perfectly good cable back to the manufacturer for replacement, and was able to get the jack replaced by the manufacturer of the bass. This prevents you from carrying questionable cables with your gig supplies and spares.

Be sure to put a piece of tape over the on switch before throwing it back in the cord bag. Other wise it will get accidentally turned on and the battery will be dead. This is the best piece of gear I ever bought. Just plug in a cord, and wiggle the heck out of it. If none of the error lights (on the left) come on, it's good to go. I found that about half of my cords were intermittent. Also found that some new cords I had bought were dead too. This saved me hours of headache. This is my second one. My first one got "borrowed". :)

This is the "German" army knife of sound tech. Modeled after one of the best testers out there (at one-third of the price) I prefer this over others for the simple reason that the led lights let you know immediately where the problem lies. This is especially helpful if you are testing cables with differing connectors on each end. I own several to keep them handy. At this price you can keep one in your studio, one in your road bag and one at the mixer desk. RULE NUMBER ONE when seeking out hums, crackles or other gremlins - CHECK THE CABLE FIRST! I drive that point home with all the techs. Cables are one of the few items that get changed each set-up. It makes sense to start troubleshooting there. This little box will do the trick.

Comments about Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester:

At this price this is a no-brainer for anyone that spends time building cables. A meter is nice, but the Behringer cable tester is more thorough. You can plug the jacks in and wiggle them around to make sure there are no intermittent shorts/breaks. A must-have in any studio or tech shop. And a must for me as a professional performer and session guitarist.
