Comments about Spark Limited Edition Blue:

If you are just starting out in recording, or even if you've been doing it for a long time, this mic is an excellent addition to your set up. The price is stupid cheap and the sound is incredible. I can't think of anything negative to say. I bought it in the limited edition blue color, which I like a little better than the orange. It's a little less glaring. Either color, it's the same mic and excellent.
It's got everything you need, minus a pad or roll off filter. The focus button does make a difference, which kind of makes up for the lack of pad and filter.
Best in class. Period.
I'd buy this mic at twice the price. It's a steal!

Comments about Spark Limited Edition Blue:

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It's a fun looking mic that works well for almost any occasion. I've left it out on my stand to make it quick and easy to use. The pop screen actually, even though small and close to the head, works well for my needs. I haven't had any 'plosives happen in any recordings yet. This bundle is a great deal!
Nice mic. My previous experience with Condenser mics, unfortunately, was only in the studio I worked in 1993-95. They had incredible mics, like Neumann U87s! They spoiled me.

This mic does not offer all the extra switches for pad, db and shape. It has a "focus" control. I have yet to use it and find out what it does yet. But this is a "beginner" and low price condenser mic, so you should expect it to be simple and straightforward, which I believe it is.
This mic sounds really good for it's price point. It's not the warmest sounding mic I've ever used but I can fix that with EQ. Flat mics are actually a very good thing, don't be fooled by others saying different. The old Neumanns sound so good because they are very much analog/tube technology. Of course they are going to be warmer because of that! You should not expect ANY modern "digital" mic to sound like that.

But all in all, I think this Spark has a nice balanced and even tone, easily workable to male, female voices AND instruments of all kinds.

I mic'd up a couple of girls and myself so far, sounded good. I also mic'd a drum kit (overhead) as well as a Djembe at the rim (with an SM57 mixed on both accounts) to very good responses.

BTW, it's built very sturdy. Blue makes very well made mics. No worries there! The shock mount was crap and kept sagging but they replaced it in less than a week with a new one that works perfectly, just call them! They didn't even make me send the old one back!
I'd say it's probably the most versatile mic I own, and that's a good reason to buy it right there. For a mic on the lower end of the $$ scale, you can use it for almost anything! And it sounds good for all things I've used it on so far!

Best bang for your buck!

Comments about Spark Limited Edition Blue:

This mic sounds amazing to only cost $200. It sound like it costs a lot more than that. The only reason I'm rating this at an 8 and not a 10 is bc of the mounting bracket and pop filter. The mounting bracket will not seem to stay tight to where I have to constantly re tighten to insure that the mic isn't going anywhere. And the pop filter does block a lot of the unwanted noise but does not take it all out. But the mic alone I give a 10

Comments about Spark Limited Edition Blue:

The Blue Spark is a gain monster. Very trebly, not quite to the point of unpleasantness. Shock mount is awesome. Focus switch unneccesary. Wood box and cable are nice extras but I don't need the box and already own much better cables. Good mic for quiet and/or detail rich sources. Not a good mic for an AC-30, Marshall, Taylor...anything trebly. Will assuredly not please anyone with its looks. I am keeping it...reluctantly.
It's a microphone, and there's usually not that many "features" on a mic. This microphone has what Blue calls a "focus control" and what I call "the suck switch". I will go my entire life without using it again. No big deal. The included pop filter is useless and will probably end up scratching the finish of the mic, which might not be a bad thing (see "Quality"). The included shock mount is very nice.
Why a five for quality? A guy who plays a Steinberger bass probably has no right to complain about aesthetics but this mic is visually hideous. Surprising as most of the Blue stuff looks top-shelf. Not this baby. The chrome looks made of plastic. Can't overstate how bad it looks. It sounds good, but I own cheaper mics that sound better. A very "zingy" sound. Recording an AC-30 with this mic would be like driving an icepick into your listeners' ears. A good acoustic guitar mic. Good for my baritone vocal range, so I'm keeping it, but it's never going to be my "go-to" mic for instruments.
Like I said, it's good, but there are mics at least as good for cheaper. My old MXL 1006 and M-Audio Luna sound better. Sure wish I'd bought another Luna back in the day.
