best sounding audio interface

By Yuki

from Mesa AZ

I ordered the echo audio fire 8 after multiple problems with m-audio interfaces and given multiple suggestions to go with echo. The first thing I noticed was how small the drivers are, 1.4mb, this is very small and includes the mixer application. Drivers are a magnitude better than other brands I have tried, also it works under any os I have tried thus far. Vista is a little flakey getting it to work, works best under XP. Latency is great, though I noticed windows vista has a click when starting the audio stream but nothing bad. The unit itself is all metal and built very well with very good input jack quality. Sound quality is top notch on the outputs as well as the headphone out. Analog to digital conversion is also top notch. RMAA testing with 1/4 jack loop in and loop out came back with near flat Frequency response, noise level of -109.5 dB and a Dynamic range of 109.5 dB. THD + N was an impressive -99.6 dB !!! In all this is the best sounding audio interface I have yet to hear or own

Audiofire 8 sounds great!

By Jebby

from Australia

The Audiofire 8 converters sound GREAT. Seriously, they add warmth to any recording. My first test was a cheap condenser on a nylon-string acoustic guitar (also cheap), and the results were outstanding with minimal effort even with positioning the mic. The converters are truly A-class, and there is a reason why so many people buy the Audiofire 12 - same converters in the 8. The preamps sound okay, not so great considering they are comparable (but slightly better in the midrange) to my behringer pres and far off my soundcraft pres, but they're not bad at all. I gave a 4.5 on quality since the trim knobs on the face feel loose and flimsy, all with different tensions, but leave these at a permanent position and this product will last! Definately recommend it.
