Nice for the Price

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1015 15 in. Active Loudspeaker:

So I got these on SDOTD. Very inexpensive. I got them after my Mackie Thump 12 (first generation) let me down yet again. (You have failed me for the last time Commander!!!) Btw, 1st gen Thumps shut down with very little provocation. Sometimes permanently. Anyway, I think I might rather have gotten the 12" version of these - smaller, lighter, and probably better punch in the midrange where my voice and guitar mostly lie. But these were the ones on sale. As you may read elsewhere, many despise 15" combo speakers because the crossover has to be right where most of the energy for voice and guitar are in the spectrum. So you can tend to get a scooped sound (depressed mids). That said, I often go for a rather scooped sound anyway. In this case, the speaker helps with that instead of the EQ. I think they sound quite good for what I do - way better than they have any right to at the price. As for volume, most places I play they used to ask me to turn down with my Mackie Thump. I rarely play to more than 50. 100 would be a big crowd. A pair of these are way more than enough to get as much volume as I need. I like a really clean, bright sound with a solid base and I hate mud. These do it for me. If you are a rock band, if you play to bigger crowds, or if your style demands arena concert volume, then these are probably not for you. But for a folky like me, or maybe for a duo with acoustic instruments, it's amazing the sound you can get for such a low price. I never would have believed it. We live in a golden age of audio.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1015 15 in. Active Loudspeaker:

No complaints whatsoever for a 150 Class D amp? Compare anything under 300 to this amp and it will more than hold its own. Run a mixer through it to EQ and adjust for dead spots due to the 15" woofer and the horn. But you want the big woofer over the 12" to have the bass advantage. EQ the midranges. Impressive for 150.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1015 15 in. Active Loudspeaker:

This is my second 15" Harbinger. Overall, this is a good speaker. The sound is not quite as crisp and clear as my first Harbinger. Still very usable.

      Service and delivery comments:

Arrived on time and in pristine condition.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1015 15 in. Active Loudspeaker:

I picked up a pair of these for a buck and a half each (SDOTD) with free shipping, and they very frankly surprised the devil out of me. Super clear, and seem to handle lots of bass before clipping. Some think these are heavy...at 41 pounds each, they're 20 or more pounds lighter than the top name versions like JBL, Yamaha, etc, and about 100 pounds lighter than my original Peavey SP-2's with Black Widow 15's. I can set up my whole solo show in 15 minutes without straining my cookies. I play guitar thru a harmonizer with my vocals and use recorded back-ups, and these take all that with no sweat. No clipping until almost max'd out with gain and main vol. Works for afternoons at winerys and distillaries (usually outside), pubs, school auditoriums, etc. Wouldn't be enough for a bigger hall. Also fine for rehearsals. I don't think you can beat these things for the price!

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1015 15 in. Active Loudspeaker:

Great price so I bought a couple of these for stereo keyboard amplification. Had to lay off the lower keys at a gig, even with the bass EQ turned down. Got way too rumbly. MIds and highs were fine. Not as loud as I had hoped for 400W - even at full volume. Will go back to my 300W 12" Seismic Audio floor monitors. I'm sure these speakers would be great for a vocal PA.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1015 15 in. Active Loudspeaker:

I bought this to use hopefully 2-4 times a year. I play jazz standards on guitar at dinners, 90 % of the time ,my old Fender Princeton Reverb will cover what I need, but at a large event what are you going to do ? hire a sound guy ? I make so little money that's out of the question. So I put a mic. in front of amp, and put this powered speaker on a pole stand. Never used it on a gig, just a couple of hours of play time at home, so far, a OK. Highly rated, by others,so I bought one. I would not try to use at loud drunk dance events, but I play soft background dinner music, so I think it will be fine. I hope I can use it in the future, as that would mean I'm playing a gig for money. Not much else to buy for my application.

Excellent speaker. Works well with what I have. Great for indoor venues. It is a bit quieter than it's 600W counterpart, but still is loud of enough for most small to medium sized venues.

Bought these on a SDOTD...actually was ordering one for a floor monitor but accidentally ordered two. I am glad I made the mistake because I now have a great pair of powered 15 inch PA speakers. They are not JBLs or EVs--but for a small to medium sized crowd, they (at 1/4 the cost) rock!

I use these in my home rehearsal space and they're perfect. Easy to dial in, clear sound and don't clip and stay true when you push them with several voices and instruments running through them. Very impressive for the price point. Like Alto's and Mackie's but I got two of these dor less than one of them on a Stupid, Stupid Deal!
