This Line 6 iPhone / iPad hardware uses the devices digital interface instead of the headphone line in/out and as a result, sound quality is vastly superior to at least the iRig hardware.
I first purchased the iRig for a low cost audio input to use with a recommended JamUp app as well as Garage Band. However, the iRig hardware produced significant noise and static due to the use of the iPad head phone circuitry. Recommended upgrades were the iRig HD because it instead makes use of the digital interface on the bottom of the iPad/iPhone.
I returned the original less expenstive iRig hardware and instead of purchasing the HD upgrade, I tried the Line 6 version at half the price.
My first impression was that the hardware felt cheap and not durable. Also when I plugged it in, I questioned the security of the connection. However, I found it connected to fine and never came unplugged in a few multi hour sessions. (I can't yet speak to durability and I'm not sure how the connection will fair in a live performance???)
I can speak to the sound quality however. This little inexpensive device produces fantastic results. The sound quality is miles better than the iRig hardware I started with! I definitely recommend this device for casual playing with headphones or even with a buddy plugged into a stereo!
The Pod software is good but only for playing. I recommend the Jamit app which also has good sound and amp models but also allows jamming to music and recording.

I was using this as an interface but it simply comes unplugged from your iPad far too easily! While recording i have frequently blown some great takes as it becomes unseated in the iPad dock and the audio stream stops. If you move every so slightly, the cable will pull the thing loose. Great idea, terribly poor implementation. Don't waste your $$$ on this.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
f
Works well for line in audio recording but has a lag in it when using the amp pod in Ipad which renders it pretty useless. In the iphone the delay is not as bad but certianly not useable for anything serious. I would be nice if it came with some kind of protective case or at least something to cover the plug.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
I'm lovin' it! I run it through the cd/mp3 in jack on my Line 6 spider 3 amp and it sounds awesome! You can also run it through your home surround sound, (with proper cords). well worth the money!
Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
This is truly a great idea for the Pod. But this thing is way to flimsy. Just get the old Pocket Pod if you are looking for a mobile headphone processor. The features are great. The amp models sound great, the effects sound great. It is very hard to change the settings on the interface though because it is just too small. The custom tone "download" function is very slow and clunky. Very frustrating to use. And there is no way to import tones you have made on your pc from previous versions of Line 6 Pod software.
Also, the "Jam along" function doesnt exist. There is no way to jam along with songs on your iPod or iPad.
Great idea, great tones, but its just not there yet.
I gave it a 4 because you do get allot of amp and cabinet models.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
The POD app works well enough, but my iPhone 4 won't work with GarageBand, I need 4s and above and then only with a 3rd party app.
For now I output the iPhone headphone jack to a DR-40 input jacks and it gets the job done, hoped to get it all on the iPhone tho. Can't complain about the price, got it on SDOTD.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
I was surprised at just how simple it was to use this with my 3rd generation iPad.
It worked with garageband for iOS and of course, the free line 6 iOS app.
Running Garageband on my iPad I can not only model guitar amps but also record the output.
I also connect the standard 1/8" stereo patch cable from my iPad's earphone jack into the aux input on my Fender amp for play through which sounds great when combining my guitar along with Garagebands other instrument tracks.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
Very easy to "get the hang of", great to have all the different sound and effects options at your fingertips, when combined with your phone, compact setup without the bulk of heavy amps or multiple pedals. Also nice not looking for an outlet to jam, just plug it in my phone and I'm in guitar heaven. I keep it in my guitar case and with a pair of headphones I'm rockin' out to awesome sounding tone without disturbing anyone. I love this thing!

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
This is a great sounding little unit with a little patience on the part of the user. Plugs into my iPhone and away it goes. Line out to my ZT Lunchbox and a fantastic practice tool for jamming and learning new material. My beef with the unit is the connectivity. It is very particular about the angle of connection and once set, god forbid if you move it... no sound.
That said, it's kind of a wonder unit and for 20 and free shipping on SDOTD, you can't go wrong. Much better the the Vox plugs.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
I don't know how this would perform in a professional recording session but for home use, it is great. I am not a sound engineer nor do I profess to be anything other than an amateur at recording. However, this item combined with the POD app, gives you plenty of tones to experiment with and spark your creativity. I bought one for me and one for one of my students. His mother ended up falling in love with it for her electric violin. She can plug it into her new iPhone5 and her electric violin can make some amazing sounds. Great for practicing when you don't want to crank up the big amplifier.
Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
Love the concept and good sample rate, but not compatible with current iphone or ipads, wish they would upgrade compatibility and go to new connector plug so compatible with current technology.

Comments about Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio Interface:
I'm on the road a lot and need a way to get sounds wherever I am. iRig was OK but required headphones which makes standing up and playing a pain.
This uses my phone speaker, comes with many amps, cabs, and fx that iRig does not and they all sound great.
Yes the connector did not sit right the first time I used it but it's been fine since. I got on SDOD so was a great deal and well worth it.
The only real downside is you can't plug iPhone power cable in while using it so your at the mercy of your battery. Not a show stopper by any means.
