OVERVIEW

An affordable, compact PA system with powered mixer, 12" speakers, microphone, and cables.

The Powerpod 820/S712 PA Package contains a Powerpod 820 powered mixer and 2 S712 12" 2-way speakers.

Powerpod 820 Mixer
The Phonic Powerpod 820 is a 200W 12-input powered mixer with two paired stereo inputs and four mono Mic/Line channels each with individual phantom power. The ultra low noise preamps and 75 Hz (18 dB/oct.) low-cut filters ensure high fidelity sound and elimination of unwanted sounds like stage rumble, P-pops, wind noise, and low frequency recording studio room resonance. The audio mixer has a 3-band EQ on every channel and onboard DFX, our 32-bit digital effects processor, with 16 preset programs and parameter control give you maximum control over your mix. Two AUX sends per channel and two stereo AUX returns mean that you can combine the Phonic Powerpod 820 with a variety of Signal Processors and other PA equipment. Monitoring the mix is easy with the Phonic mixer's dual 10-segment LED level meters and high volume headphone output. The added feature of Mini Stereo I/O makes this mixing console perfect for anyone connecting MP3, MD, or computer audio or recording devices. The Powerpod 820 is ideal for project studios, clubs, and other applications that demand power in a limited space. It also works great as a keyboard mixer, sub-mixer or monitor desk. Comes with microphone, mic cable, and speaker cables.

2 Phonic S712 Speakers
The Phonic S712 is a 2-way stage speaker that features carpeted casings to provide extra protection against rough handling. These Phonic speakers are packed with power handling abilities of up to 300W on Peak, 150W on Program. The S712 speakers feature a 12" heavy duty woofer and piezo tweeter.

I've owned this system for a few years and it's worked perfectly every time. I play mostly small acoustic gigs, but I have it set up in my house for a practice area.

Set up is real easy (I recommend investing in heavy duty 1/4" cables, the ones they come with are not that great).

I play an Ibanez electric acoustic and plug an XLR directly from the guitar into the mixer. I have played my electric though the PA, using a Line 6 PowerPod HD 300 effects pedal, but I had a hard time adjusting the sound quailty with all the pre-amps (maybe I just need the practice but I recommend just plugging your electric into an Amp and then mic'ing the amp). I've also run my Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator into this system and it works fine, but their was a hiss which I believe was more the fault of the AC-3, rather than the phonic 820.

The only drawback I have is that if you're trying to play in a large venue or with other instruments and a band, you may need an amplifier to give you more volume, but this works perfectly in coffee house settings. Also, they board only has a limited number of inputs for Mics and instruments, so again, it works great for small shows.

Also, it's worth investing in the tripod stands. Awhile back, musiciansfriend offered those as the free gift that came with this PA system.

The OK. Using this as a small PA for a 15 x 15 rehearsal room. More than enough power to fill that room and the mic is surprisingly good, even a little brighter that my SM58s. Nice versatility with the inputs and the onboard effects are OK. Would be nice to have a more detailed user manual though. Now the Bad. Horn tweeter blew after 2 months of light use. No response from mfr. after numerous emails and tickets submitted. I know speakers blow sometimes, but since it had a 1 year warranty I thought I could use it. Wrong. Finally gave up and purchased an aftermarket horn tweeter and replaced it myself. So I voided the warranty, but they wont respond to me so who cares at this point and I need a functioning product. Save up and spend your money on a Peavey or Yamaha system instead.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I was very pleased and surprised about the power and ease of use. I purchased the unit to help with a kids program for the summer and was concerned when I opened the mixer and how wmall it was. So far it has done a great job and the sound has been really good. Hoping it last for a long time. Only time will tell.

Great Little PA

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I'm using this with my band and an electronic drumset. It might not have enough power if you have a loud analog drummer.
Lots of power from a small package. What I liked about this PA is that it has panning for all channels; most of the other pa systems don't seem to have any pan knobs. ?? ...Great price too !
Quality seems fine aside from the fact that the inputs on the speakers and the cables are a bit flimsy.
Great value for the money.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I was somewhat disappointed with how much buzz you can hear in these speakers after I saw only good reviews about their sound quality before purchasing them. They're affordable but I'm wishing I'd have just paid more for a better quality product even though I'm only using them in conjunction with my home theater system.

Wait, save a little money and get something better

    By Thomas Wenthold

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

This Pa has low power, bad sound, and bad craftsmanship. The second day I had it it would no longer turn on. When it did turn on the first day the speakers maxed with the slightest of ease, the microphone and cable that came with it were useless and the sound at a decent level was unclear and horribal sounding. There is just no power. The effects are useless because of how bad they sound. If you like dissapointment and return items I highly suggest this.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

A great PA System!! Musicians Friend = Great Deals!
The mixer is a great, simple, and "to the point" mixer. It's worked really well and didn't take more than a day for me to understand it. The speakers sound great! very clean and not smothered with bass!
The quality is great! If you're looking for a good PA System for small venues or band practice, this is your best deal. There were no problems with the shipping and it arrived within 5 days!! I was expecting it to arrive in about a week, but it came earlier in great condition. This order has made me change from being a Guitar Center shopper into a Musicians Friend shopper.
It's a great small PA System and the Mic it comes with is alright. It's not the best dynamic mic, but it sounds good. Speakers sound great. Great price for a great PA System!

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

After roughly a month of using the Phonic Powerpod 820/S712 package, I'm pleased. I use the system for home practice & coffeehouse size gigs. The semi-wedge speaker design is functional. When practicing at home, I set the speakers up in monitor configuration. Works great! Sound quality is very good, but please note: This system is not loud. For my needs, quality is more important than volume. Folks needing a loud system should probably consider another option. The system is easy to use and performs well. My Taylor dreadnaught comes alive. Vocals are clear and crisp. The system handles a guitar, flute and two vocal mics without complaint (it does get a bit fussy when the flute is run thru an octave pedal).Effects are OK, but sound a bit thin when you crank them. The cables that come with the system are lightweight and mic isn't great. If I had one suggestion for the folks at Phonic it would be ditch the mic & mic cable and upgrade the speaker cables that come with the system.Final note. I bought the system through Musician's Friend and was very pleased with the service provided.

I am HAPPY!!!!!!!! Now it's time to RIP IT UP!!!!
I absolutly dig this PA. I was impressed with the digital effects and it's power.
Made well,, durable. The only issue is the cable that they have with the system....kinda weak! I suggest some thicker gauge cables.
Can't beat this system for the price.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I like the fact that this unit has a variety of input options and that comes in handy for the types of uses I put this thing through. Mostly, it gets used for karaoke and recorded music, but have also hosted open-mic nights at our local restaurant (free food!!). This unit was specifically chosen because of the ability to separately control Pan and monitor levels. The mic included with the 720 package is just as warm as my SM58, but includes the on/off button. Not the most powerful amp, but that is to be expected at only 100w per channel. To help maximize the output, I use the 12in cabinets on Channel 1, a set of 10in cabinets on Channel 2, and then run a 500w powered sub out of one of the line-level outputs. If following this setup, be mindful of the ohm rating so that you don't prematurely blow anything. For what I use it for, I'm happy. I ran sound for a local musician whom is VERY well-known and he made a comment about my gear being "cheap, Chinese ****" during a live performance. Well, I may not have paid for a big $$$ for Mackie, Yamaha, or other big name brand, but nothing has failed yet and my crowds love the sound! As for that musician.........I will never work for him again.

For the record, the user manual and all associated cables that came with this package should be discarded. Get quality cables and spend some time familiarizing yourself with the settings. Still figuring it out after more than a year of playing with it!

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

True story, I bought one of these sets about 6 years ago and have used the heck out of it, often on a daily basis. Home entertainment audio, stereo amp for a digital guitar amp sim pedal, sound system for my PC and/or game systems, outdoor sound system for BBQs and such, even a few actual gigs, you name it, it got used for it.
I live in an area of Texas that got hit by hurricane Harvey, and the mixer was at a friend's house that got flooded with six feet of water and mud. It was completely submerged and covered in silt.
Took it apart, cleaned it out, let it air dry for several days, then sprayed it all very excessively with contact cleaner. Believe it or not, this cheap chinese mixer still works.
It never sounded great to begin with, but it doesn't sound any worse now.... incredible!
Considering the price, the versatility, and the resilience, I don't have much to complain about.

This system has been in my auction house for over a year now. I use it at my monthly auctions, it's loud, clear, pure and perfect. When I'm working at the auction house alone I use it to play music from my phone (Pandora) (Zac Brown Band Radio) and it absolutely kicks posteriors! I took it down to the local golf course to call a Calcutta auction recently, and the wind blew one of the speakers, along with it's stand to the ground. It suffered not a blemish, and performs sensationally to this day. Stop thinking about it, buy it!

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I got this as a graduation gift about 3 years ago. Since then, I've used it for many things:

Small gigs with my punk/rock band (mics only, with both speakers and 3 floor wedges)

          DJing (added a small subwoofer)

Church worship (acoustic guitar, electronic drums, mics, floor wedges)

Through all this, this little system has never failed me. It is really solid sound if you know how to EQ everything, and it has decent power.

To this day, we still use the two speakers at my church. We have a 32 channel Peavey board, a Behringer iNUKE power amp, 18" Peavey subs, a full band, and we've found no reason yet to replace these little Phonic speakers. They project the highs and mids great, and have enough power to pump out the low end nicely.

The only thing I wish is that the board would have just a little more power to keep things from peaking. That would make a lot of difference.

          Side note:
The "tweeter" speaker came un-hooked, as if someone somehow forgot to put it in! No problem, though. Just take off the side handle and screw the tweeter in to the pre-made threads of the speaker cab. Super easy fix!

All in all, this is a great system. I'd recommend it to anyone that needs a small system.

It was okay to start, but eventually strange things started happening...mysterious pops...phantom power going in and out....wanted to throw it against the wall at our last gig...not really that powerful either....just not a very good pa

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I purchased this set about two years ago, and have used them for a few birthday parties, a wedding and a couple of work events. This is certainly powerful enough for a small gathering but will not be good for a slamming dance party. The variety of inputs is great. It also has lots of effects but I never use them. Also would work well for a smallish band to use as their PA, as on the output side you can do monitors AND house output.
