OVERVIEW

Sweet stereo silence.

A high-quality, passive direct box that uses 2 proprietary custom-made transformers, one for each channel, for both impedance conversion and isolation. Linear from 20Hz-18kHz, with low distortion and virtually zero phase distortion makes it perfect for live or studio performances. Because of the transformer isolation, problems such as hum and buzz caused by ground loops are eliminated, making it very easy and hassle-free to use. Features include 1/4" thru/input, -15dB pad, and ground lift protected from damage by a protective front panel. Heavy-duty construction, baked enamel finish, and 600ohm balanced output. 3" x 5".

Comments about Radial Engineering ProD2 Passive Stereo Direct Box:

Anyone who uses a laptop computer & a PA system will have a problem with noise of all types. I searched the web,I asked techs & asked "HP" (they said I did damage to my unit) until I found the Radial PROD2 The unit is built like a rock, simple to use when setting up your gear and resolved every issue I had with frequency noise as well as poorly grounded electric supplies. BRAVO!!!

Comments about Radial Engineering ProD2 Passive Stereo Direct Box:

We now have six ProD2s and two J48 active direct boxes. We have been using Radial equipment for four years now, and could not be happier. They build a quality, professional-level product that's easy to use, and never fails.

Comments about Radial Engineering ProD2 Passive Stereo Direct Box:

I bought this DI with two thoughts in mind:

      1. I needed something to run my keyboard through before getting to the mixer, and I wanted something that would do stereo.
      2. I wanted to avoid active DI's to avoid dealing with 9-volt batteries.

This DI box is exactly what I needed. I can run my keyboard in full stereo, and it's a quiet signal. No batteries, and it's a solid build. This is a great product, hands down.

Comments about Radial Engineering ProD2 Passive Stereo Direct Box:

performs exactly as described. Have it set up using a MAC Laptop and PA. Sounds clean, precise, and works well. No hum, distortion. Great stereo sound. Great for live or studio recording. Haven't tried it on acoustic guitars yet, but I'm sure it'll work well on that too.
Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Typical great Radial quality.
super quality. Performs just as described. Easy setup and very durable housing.
      Absolutely worth it.

Comments about Radial Engineering ProD2 Passive Stereo Direct Box:

I'll focus my comments on how I use the ProD2 with my stereo keyboard. Let me start by saying that this unit does exactly what it's supposed to do: convert hi-z signals to low-z and send it to the board. The sound is clean, hum-free, and linear with respect to both volume and frequency. I love the thru-channels as a "bonus" feature for stage or studio monitors - very useful. Oh, and I think I could drive my car over it and do no damage. I've never used a DI box that can boast of all this things, so that immediately sets this unit apart.

In various reviews, I've heard this unit described as "warm" and able to take the "digital edge" out of signals. In other places, it's been described as "transparent" and having no impact on your tone. With my keyboard, I can say that the ProD2 does impact your tone, and most of the time this is a very positive thing. In an A/B test with a hi-z cable straight into the board, this unit does "warm up" the signal in some ways - I really liked the effect it had on my electric piano and organ patches, making them less harsh and fuller-sounding. It also allowed me to bring back a bright piano patch that was otherwise unusable for sounding too brittle. The downside to this is that the ProD2 made a mellow grand piano patch (one of my favorites) even darker, which was particularly problematic during live shows.

I also need to mention how and when this unit distorts - another pro, in my opinion. As a keyboard player, I'm incredibly biased against using active DIs because it doesn't take much to overload them and get some nasty distortion. I'm happy to say that when this unit is driven hard, the signal saturates and breaks apart much more naturally, without any harsh clipping. This is actually a great effect for my EP and organ patches! The high frequencies seem to fuzz out first, while the low end stays tight even under load.

All in all, a fantastic unit that may be right for your needs. Just be aware that it will color your tone somewhat.

Using to connect two channels from Roland FP-80 digital keyboard. Good clean sound to/from mixer.

Comments about Radial Engineering ProD2 Passive Stereo Direct Box:

There is not a whole lot to say thats bad about this box.. I guess if i could even dig to find something bad it would be more of a preference.. Theres a soft foam like material on the bottom side for grip.. I would probably prefer a hard grippy rubber bottom for durability but other than that this thing SHINES! I plugged it into a basic Behringer Mixer direct into a pc and was pretty amazed with the clarity of the guitar. I have used cheaper di boxes with less than perfect results before and this is nothing like that experience.. I love that it has a -15 db pad.. one of the best features imo. Some guitars just have more input volume than others this fixes that! Not to mention that this thing is quite the solidly built box... I accidently dropped it down a flight of stairs to a concrete floor and feared the worst but alas! There wasn't even a scratch on the thing! I might just use it for a backup hammer! (not suggested lol) Anyway the bottom line is if you're looking for a sturdy di that will last for years stop looking.. This is it!
