A best-selling Sontronics design, the STC-1 combines a removable cardioid capsule with a detailed 25Hz–20kHz frequency response and 20mV/Pa sensitivity, making it equally capable on acoustic guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, cymbals and other sources where transient detail and tonal accuracy matter. Three-stage filtering and attenuation provide extensive control directly from the microphone, while its compact brass construction makes precise positioning easy in crowded studio or live setups. Three-Stage Filter and Pad Controls Adapt to the Source

The STC-1 provides linear, 75Hz and 150Hz filter settings, allowing engineers to retain the microphone's full response or reduce unwanted rumble, handling noise and low-frequency buildup before the signal reaches the preamp. A separate three-position pad offers 0dB, -10dB and -20dB settings, providing the headroom needed when moving from delicate acoustic instruments to louder sources. With maximum SPL handling of 137dB at 0.5% THD and a 16dB A-weighted equivalent noise level, this condenser mic can capture both subtle performances and high-output instruments with clean, controlled detail.

Interchangeable Capsules Expand the Recording Possibilities

The included cardioid capsule provides focused pickup for a broad range of instrument and production applications, but the STC-1's removable capsule system allows its directional characteristics to change with the session. Optional Sontronics omnidirectional and hypercardioid capsules can be installed in seconds, giving engineers the ability to move from natural 360° ambience and room capture to tighter source isolation without changing the entire microphone.
