I got 2 pairs of these because I needed to try something different. I'd go through wood sticks like a lumberjack. These are great quality sticks, but they're not quite as durable as they should be. They feel like they have bad balance, and after a short time the sleeves get a little stretched out and it allows for very intense vibration through the body of the stick... can get very painful. Here's my biggest problem. I broke these bad boys IN HALF before I replaced the sleeves for the first time. Maybe they expect you to change the sleeves BEFORE they start cutting through, though. (I didn't even bust or dent up my snare head...)They lasted quite a bit longer than wood sticks, but they feel weird. Don't get them unless you're gonna get drumming gloves.

It is possible to break these..

By Sir Ted Taylor

from IL

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

I've broken two of these style of drumsticks (I had the Joey Jordison signature pairs). After about 6 months of playing hard with these, it is very possible for the aluminum core on the inside to snap in half.My guess is that it's from either rim shots or the ride bell. Either way, they are definitely NOT indestructible, unfortunately.I will say that the performance of these sticks are outstanding and I love playing with them, but after you break a couple of them, you start to not want to spend so much on a pair of them if you know they are going to break again.Worth the money until they break.

Very Hard Hitter

By Violent Vic

from Central NY

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

I've been a rock drummer for twenty-five years now and have tried alot of different kinds of sticks. The Ahead sticks are what works for me. I hit very hard for about thirty to fourty rock tunes. I've broken very few since I started using this brand. The savings from broken wood sticks is worth the extra cost. I only broke a few hitting the bell on my ride cymbal.

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

worth the money
I find these drumsticks very useful in many ways.
1. They look cool (not the biggest thing but its a plus)
2. Solid hits
3. You can beat them up very hard, more than wooden ones
4. They dont put any damage marks on your heads or cymbals

but they do have some negatives
1. These particular "rock" sticks are a bit heavy for my taste
2. they are expensive

overall great sticks i would give them a try if I were anyone, they do last a good amount of time and they do come in a variety of weights not just this one. Personally if I could choose to be sponsored for sticks, ahead is where to go.

Long-Term Money-in-the-Bank

By NinjaNate

from C-ville, IN

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

I have played with these for about a year now. I used to go through a pair of 747 japanese oak pro-marks every practice session, which got very expensive. Not to mention, no matter how often I played, I always got new blisters and wear on my hands. In complete support of Ahead rock drumsticks, I love everything about these. I find these to produce excellent sound and to be extremely comfortable.

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

these are awesome, bought 2 pr 8 yrs ago broke 1 about a wk ago, probably from the kids beating on the rims with them though, they reduce fatigue dramaticly, balanced great, i recommend these to all the drummers i know(not necesarily the "rock" sticks they are large), sleeves are easily replaced with a blow dryer or hot water, excellent excellent sticks havent picked up a wood stick since i went Ahead.

Awesome sticks with one flaw

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

Well I have a really bad problem of breaking pair after pair of wooden sticks. At one point i went to a gig with 6 pairs of sticks and would have zero by are 5th song out of a set list of 8 tracks! So i heard of these sticks and i decided to give it a try. great feel, nice weight and they look pretty damn cool, But my one thing is that these sticks are so powerful now instead of breaking sticks i break heads and cymbals!! and there is nothing worser than breaking your snare or a cymbal in the middle of a gig trust me!I really would rather prefer breaking wooden sticks than cymbals and heads in my opinion. So unless you got lots of money and/or are sponsored by a brand of heads and cymbals or are just not a "hard hitter" be careful, because these sticks really are a weapon!

Great Sticks

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

Have used, Use and will continue to use these sticks. These sticks have out preformed any wood stick ever (not to mention the lack of sawdust I have to clean off my set). Some people have complained about weight of the tip of these sticks I don?t know why when they are balanced dead center and just south of dead center with stick tape. I have never broken one of these sticks and I play hard. I think the people that are breaking these sticks are the same ones that say they go through 3 sets of wood sticks in one night or one gig, so I think it is safe to assume that these people are breaking sticks dew to improper sticking rather than inferior sticks. These sticks have removable replaceable tips and sleeves. If the sleeves get cut to the metal replace them if the tips get lose tighten them or replace them either way it is still cheaper than buying new sticks. These sticks play great and don?t vibrate like wood sticks (in my opinion the sticks lack of vibration is what has caused some people to get blisters the sticks tend to stay put in your hand you don?t have to regrip the stick so much therefore the stick stays in contact with your skin longer in one place and may cause blisters).

Heavy

By BoRDdrummer

from pasadena, TX

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

The sticks are good quality and all they are advertised to be.I have one problem with them. They are too heavy (in weight).Hand fatigue is a big problem (leads to hand cramping)and the grip they say helps this does not work. The heaviness also leads to several blisters (even through gloves),which is also a problem. If you are a glutten for punishment,go for it.If not, stick with the lighter wood sticks.

I'll never use wood again, best ever

By Maestro Phil

from Evanston, Il

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

I have used the Ahead brand sticks for at least 10 years. In that time I have saved considerable $ on sticks. One pair lasted 7 years. With regular use they are truly unbreakable. They have never let me down. Forget wood drumsticks. Best sticks ever.

These sticks don't live up to the hype.

By R. G. Beckman

from New Brunswick, NJ

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

I bought these sticks in hopes that they would be a pair that I wouldn't break... too bad I broke the tips almost immediately and had to replace the coating several times. Just after a year, I was in the middle of a roll and one of the sticks snapped in half. I don't think anyone who plays with any energy buys these.

I seriously think they're a waste of money.

By Drumguy-YsmXb

from west bend, WI

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

The sticks at first sound pretty cool, with the whole replaceable covers. The thing that got me is i had these sticks for one month and they broke on me. In this time i probably practiced no more than 2 hours each day and i put one new set of replacement covers on after like two weeks. So i figured that a pair of wooden sticks that last 2 weeks each were a better investment. A little less cool looking, but i just need something that lasts.

disappointed

By rolo tommasi

from voorhees, nj

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

i loved the feel and durability of this product, a new sleeve equals a new stick. unfortunatly, one out of my set of tommy lee concerts broke between 20-30hrs. of playing time. it broke over a cymbal, which did not crack, and is a clean shear all the way around the inner metal shaft which the plastic sleeve goes over which leads me to belive that it was some kind of defect from the factory. now, for the money they cost there should be some kind of phone number or website ont the product or it's packaging, but there is not. the store that they were purchased from has left our area and no other stores are seeming to really give a **** so it looks like I'm out some cash and am back to playing thru 2-3 sets of wood sticks per gig.

Depends on the style

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

Sounds bad on the ride cymbal. The covers don't get chewed up That fast, but fast enough. They wear down especially on the crash cymbals (like all sticks, but especially these) if you use them a lot. Not bad for jazz, maybe?? Wouldn't recommend for hard rockers. I'd just get the cheapest wooden sticks you can find. They do get chewed up faster, but not more than 3 times as fast.

Pretty Good Sticks if You Ask Me

By MHDarilek

from San Antonio, TX

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

I got these, and noticed that they are fairly heavy.. And more weighted towards the front.. I can't go as fast as I could with my old Vic Firths but I can still rock out..Since they are so heavy, I can see how they can do havoc on your drum heads and cymbals.. I like to tune my floor tom fairly low, and the sound when hitting the floor tom is awesome, but seems like it is going to result in lugs breaking because of the force behind these sticks hitting the drum.. The ping on the bell of a ride is much more prevalent with these sticks. A thing which I really like..Overall, I do like them, they might take a little getting used to, but overall I found myself doing alot better and the drums sounding louder and having more Umpf!

Used 'em, Liked 'em

By FceDwnDrmr

from Frankston, TX

Comments about Ahead Rock Drumsticks:

When I first got these sticks I was a little overwhelmed by the price. Then I started checking them out, taking the tips off and looking at the way they were made. After I played with them I knew I wouldn't use any other kind of sticks. Over the course of playing gigs here and there for 3 years I've replaced 4 tips and 7 covers. They've just recently broke but it was at the weak spot where the handle and shaft connected. I tried wood sticks a few shows after that but they just weren't the same. Overall they were great and they saved me money in the long run. I would recommend them to anyone looking to rock out. Only thing is I couldn't hold on to them without the grips, which, by the by, get an A+.
