The amber cap is exactly what gibson used on the original guitars back in the fifties. And yes, it has threads. I use these caps on all my historic reissue gibson guitars because the toggle caps that come with the historic reissue guitars today are light brown and not amber like the originals. These ARE Original Gibson parts. If you put these on other brand guitars you're obviously going to find an imperfect match for your guitar. If you want an original gibson toggle cap from the fifties (like your '59 les paul)... this is it! I love them and won't use anything else.

I suppose Gibson calls it a switch "cap" rather than switch "tip", because it is threaded and screws on instead of slides on (as with Fender).
It's a small piece of plastic...nothing more, nothing less. Can't figure out why Gibson feel they have to charge so much for it. It is designed to do two things: 1). Pretty-up the guitar 2). Keep a person from cutting their finger. I bought it for two reasons....one to change the look of a Gibson Les Paul Junior that has Zebra (black & white) Humbuckers---the original had a black switch cap with a black switch washer, and I wanted to mix it up with a white switch cap on black switch washer to match the pickup's, and I wanted to do it, yet, keep the guitar all original by name.
It looks nice, and feels nice, but at what cost? I'm not impressed with the price and quality difference between any instruments, gear, and extras that say "Gibson" on them versus everyone else.
Any way: back to this dumb little expensive piece of plastic: it functions as it is designed to, and my friend's 'Gibson' is still supposedly all 'Gibson'. 3 stars for that.
Would I recommend to a friend? I suppose. If you wanna keep a Gibson all original, you're gonna have to pay for the name...if you have an Epiphone, absolutely not; an Epiphone is not threaded, and you can pay a third of the price and get the same result.

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

Since couldn't find a specific toggle switch cap for Epiphone guitars, I wrongly assumed that the Gibson part would fit. It doesn't. Thanks for nothing! You folks could either A) Sell the Epiphone part; or B) Mention in the write-up for this that it does NOT fit Epiphone guitars.

      Perfect Fit

      By Alan-FR6Ie

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

It may be one of the more pricey alternatives available but it comes with that Gibson look and quality so to me that's a good value. It seems there is a lot of misinformation about this particular product. It absolutely is threaded, as are all Gibson LPs regardless of their year. It does seem this cap is incompatible with Epiphone LPs which I imagine is where so much of this confusion comes from. You can rest assured however that it will fit just fine on your Gibby.

This is not for new Guitars

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

Buyer beware this replacement cap is not for Gibson and Epi guitars made in the last decade as they started using different toggle switches. The new switches have caps that thread on, but this cap is made to snap on and has a wider base like the one on the original toggle switches.

      White Toggle Switch Cap

      By Michael Pham

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

I was really disappointed that it did not fit my 2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio. The toggle cap was way

too wide to fit onto the pickup selector switch.
Too pricey for just one toggle cap.

Got the amber to replace a broken toggle on a '70s Les Paul. Fits perfectly though it is REALLY amber. Like almost bright amber. Not subtle coloring at all. However, it fits, it works, I'll get used to it. But I was a little taken aback.
