A balanced stick with round tip for ultimate versatility.
The Oak Lab Series Full Balance drum stick is an attractive model for its all around versatility. As far as size, this model is the standard 406 mm (16") length, 14.5 mm (0.570") diameter. Oak makes it slightly heavier to increase the accuracy of the stick control. The True Round shape tip allow players to easily arrange the balance of tones and volume because it hits the drum head and cymbal in the same dimension even when hitting changes. Additionally, the combination of True Round tip shape and hardness of Oak provide a well-balanced timbre and clear attack.

Comments about TAMA Oak Lab Series Full Balance Drum Sticks:
I know lots of drummers find the sticks they like & then stay with them, with maybe a few alternatives for, say, specific circumstances, but I find for myself that I just like having a wide variety. In general, I prefer hickory (like most people), with nylon tips (they sound better on cymbals, IMHO), in "average" sizes (5A & 5B & such). So I've amassed a little menagerie--14 different pairs at last count (including a mallet/styck hybrid, brushes, & a now-defunct Twin Cities brand of hot rods). I use Vic Firth the most, but I'm not a rigid brand loyalist; my stick bag also includes a couple Vater & Pro-Mark pairs, as well as Zildjians & Regal Tips. This is my second pair of TAMA sticks, both oak. This pair is more all-around; the other is a thinner, shorter "jazz" pair.
Anyways, when I play, I grab different sticks, sometimes for a specific reason, sometimes just for the variety--if I have the time, I'll go through every pair in one sitting, just for funzies. These are a really good, all-purpose pair, with a nice rounded tip (wood) & a good average size. I would say that, to me, the sense that oak feels harder than hickory is true--it's not unpleasant, really, but I do find that I feel it in my hands when I use my oak sticks. If you've never tried oak sticks & are curious to try them, this pair would be a good entry point--not too exotic, really, & the price makes it easy to take a chance without worry. Go for it!
