American Hickory dowels have to meet very strict quality characteristics to become a Vater drumstick. Vater only uses dowels that have a specific moisture content, straightness and grain structure, to produce a higher quality drumstick.
These Vater 8A Drumsticks are formed from hickory—the most popular drumstick material. Hickory is dense and strong so it is resistant to chipping and breaking. Stronger than maple, it also absorbs a lot of shock. As a result, these sticks lessen wrist and hand fatigue while playing.
Vater guarantees their drumsticks to be straighter, more consistent and of higher quality than all other leading drumstick manufacturers. 100% of Vater’s drumsticks are manufactured in the USA. All Vater Drumsticks are tone and weight matched by computer analysis.

Comments about Vater American Hickory 8A Drumsticks:
Vater makes extremely high quality drumsticks. The company's wood seems to be a notch above other brands. Vic Firth hickory wood tips often chip, while its maple wood tips dent quickly and lose attack. The tips of nearly every pair of Vater sticks I own are just as functional as when I first received them. Regarding the 8As, the quality is just as good as always with Vater. The balance is perfect, allowing for a nice rebound off of cymbals without sacrificing a good sound on the drums. My main disappointment is that the pair of sticks was not weight-matched well. I could tell immediately that one stick was heavier than the other and confirmed this using a kitchen scale. This kind of inconsistency seems to be more prevalent with Vater sticks than the other major brands, which is unfortunate given the high quality of each individual stick.
