I've been playing for 30 yrs and a collector that buys, sell, and trades amps and guitars all the time and that's how I was turned on to Bugera. It's a hand wired, all tube amp that delivers amazing thick, warm cleans. I started off by trading a Fender amp for a used V22 combo. I was impressed and bought a New V22 HD Infinium and love it. The SELF-BIASING feature is real nice considering a new set of tubes are not cheap. As for the tone I already knew what I was getting from the V22 combo I previously owned HOWEVER If you are into the "Marshall" gains you need for Classic rock or Metal, this amp is not for you. I consider the gains section of the Bugera "V"intage line to be weak. Try the more versatile Bugera 6262 that does it all with decent gains and cleans. All in all, IF you are a Jazz & Blues guitarist DEFINITELY BUY THIS AMP.

Mixed pros and cons...

Long term reliability and Lack of parts support is the main problem w/ Bugera. It sounds good...but the low price may not be the bargain you think it is.

Comments about Bugera Vintage V22HD 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I ran across this head while researching 2 channel amps around the 20 watt mark. I've been using a 15W Tweaker combo (which I love), but couldn't get the desired range of sounds while playing live without expanding my already cluttered pedalboard. Since no stores were carrying one that I could hear in person, I had to resort to online videos to figure out whether or not I liked the tones this could put out. After months of agonizing, I finally bit the bullet and ordered it sight unseen (sound unheard?).

I got it with Bugera's 2x12 closed back cabinet. Since I live in an apartment, the initial tweaking was done at a reasonably low volume. My humbucking PRS SE Santana was pretty muddy in the "normal" jack, but after switching to "bright" I quickly found some usable tones. The clean channel is very rich sounding and required a bit of fiddling with the treble and presence knobs to get a tone that would work with a band. Once dialed in, it took my pedals beautifully and let the guitar tone really shine through. The gain channel was disappointing. Anything past mild breakup sounded fizzy on the top end and muddy at the bottom. The shared EQ got a decent compromise between the gain and clean channels, but I was a bit underwhelmed.

As soon as I took it to band practice and got the speakers moving some air, things improved dramatically. The clean channel stayed articulate and warm, and the gain channel sat so well in the mix I felt like I wasn't using any volume at all. There was still fizziness with higher gain, so I kept that channel to a mild overdrive that I could push with a boost pedal and saturate with a drive pedal. A cranked OD pedal on the clean channel took care of the rest of the gain. At stage volume, this covers lush clean to mild, classic rock overdrive all on its own. With pedals, I can cover anything from ambient post-rock and 90's grunge to country/blues and classic rock.

    In short, TURN IT UP!!!

Comments about Bugera Vintage V22HD 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp after reading several reviews, thinking I would just give it a try iI ran it through a small Marshall cab with 2-65 watt cream backs and 2-70 watt V types.
At first I was not impressed, but after the tubes started burning in it completely changed. I love it.
      I own a Marshall JVM 210 that I run through a 1960 Vintage and a DSL100 through a 1960 A
I swapped out this little head on each cab and my friend and I jammed with each head and the sound was as close to a Marshall as I have heard, If you get this and let the tubes cook in you might be surprised, I was. Remember opinions are like _ well you know the rest

Comments about Bugera Vintage V22HD 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm amazed at this amp. You will hear a lot of responses like "for the price, this amp is great!" but this amp doesn't need the "for the price" qualifier. This amp sounds fantastic. Period. The exceptionally low price is just icing on the already delicious cake. I own a few amps currently and have owned many amps over my time playing. I wouldn't say this amp replaces every amp I have owned, however, is phenominally better than amps way above its price range. I sold my Marshall DSL recently after owning this amp for 3 months and convinced myself that I was playing it way more than my DSL. I've owned a few Blackstar amps, and the Bugera blows them away, hands down. You may be able to milk a tad bit more gain out of a Blackstar, but tone wise, there is no comparison. Smack a nice overdrive in front of this amp and you're easily doing some heavy stuff.

The clean channel on this amp is superb. Very warm. Very smooth sounding. Very organic. Turn on the reverb and you will get some amazing sounding clean tones. I would say the clean channel isn't as "dynamic" as a Marshall clean, but it is super clean and super great sounding. Crank the volume on the clean and you're getting into some nice sounding breakup even with the Master volume around the 1/4 mark. Roll back the clean channels volume to 3/4 or less and it's super clean and beautiful sounding.

The overdrive channel sounds great. It has a nice growl and punch to it that really stands out. I love when overdrives get a nice growl and rumble to them that makes them sound super mean and aggressive, yet still retain presence to cut through. This amp provides that with no problem. Even at bedroom volumes, you can hear this amp growl. Hit an E power chord and you'll hear some great characteristics. Lots of rumble and sustain.

This amp can get super loud, of course. It's 20 watts of power. However, the master volume is incredible. Put it on 1 and have no problems playing in a home without annoying your wife and kids. Knock the master volume down to 1/2 and you can play at night and not annoy anyone either. I can hear my strings over the amp at the 1/2 mark, but you can still hear the incredible sounds of the amp come through at that volume. This is an outstanding master volume. I do wish it has a resonance control that could bring in the bottom in when you have the volume this low, but it's still quite a great sound, even at this level.

I'm surprised that they can make an amp that sounds like this at this price. If you can only get one amp, this is the amp to get because you'll have no problem using it at home and with your band. It will cover almost any musical genre except for very high gain that would typically need a noise gate, i.e. death metal and such... You're covered on anything from Classical to Country to Classic Rock to Metal.

My other amps aren't getting as much play as this one and they the least expensive one costs 2x the amount this amp does. I love my other amps, but this one is not only a keeper, but my default choice as of lately.

Comments about Bugera Vintage V22HD 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Bought this as an open box from M/F, no problems, came with all the original packaging, manuals, etc. This replaces a 50 watt tube head that powered my Laney 2X12 cab. The clean is very clean, I get great tone from my humbucker guitars, and my single style p'ups. Second channel can be very crunchy and responds well to the gain control. Reverb is nice and smooth. Footswitch for channel and reverb, with LED indicator lights, and a fairly long cable. Good selection of speaker impedance, and options for I/O, effects loop, etc. Responds well to my selection of pedals. You could gig with this guy and be very happy with the volume, like I get from my 2X12. The controls are arranged in a sensible and convenient fashion, and in my preferred "chicken head" style. I recently added a G&L ASAT to my arsenal, and this amp drips tone with the open A tuning I'm playing around with. I don't have enough experience yet to comment on Bugera's tube management system, but the idea appeals to me, so we shall see. All in all an excellent tube amp for the money in the popular 20 watt class, full featured and versatile. I don't see how you can go wrong.

Honestly can't figure why this isn't a more popular seller. Has Triode/Pentode switch, effects loop, reverb. I think it's a really nice sounding amp. Great power; not TOO powerful to be useful.
Running two Marshall 4 x 10" cabinets with it (using 1 at a time), but has the ability to run 4/8/16 ohm. Really a great amp.

Comments about Bugera Vintage V22HD 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I was not sure an amp designed for vintage sound would have enough distortion for solos, but after tweaking the knobs for the power tubes to distort at moderate volumes, YES it's got plenty of overdrive!
With the Preamp volume on 3, Gain on 6, the Master volume on 10, and set in Triode mode, it's only at moderate living room volume with awesome lead or crunch for 1980s punk-postpunk.
I want an amp that I can footswitch from clear to saturated solo, this does it very well.
My only issue is it's size and weight; 22" wide, my 112 cabinet is only 20", so it looks oversized.
Not a bad thing really, because the oversize makes it look louder and more powerful than it is. Mo-betta to impress the audience, than a little amp.

This is a great buy for the price. I got mine at an even better price because the tolex was ripped a tad on top. The lead channel is a monster, no pedals needed here. I do use a compression/sustain pedal but it is mostly for the clean channel. I did have to mess with the controls to dial in the clean tube sound I like but this is amp is awesome, especially for the price..

Comments about Bugera Vintage V22HD 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I agree with all the positive reviews about how good and good sounding this amp is. A no-brainer for it's price. features and sound quality. I also agree that the Bass is lacking in the gain channel. Most guys are fine with that but iI thought I'd mention it. Clean channel has great bass which is a big bonus for an EL-84 driven amp. So that's a nice plus.

Can always run pedals through the fine sounding Clean channel if the Gain is not to your liking or Bass response is problematic. Tone is good and the tone controls are responsive. The reverb is another pleasant surprise - warm with a nice tail and not shimmery - really good one!
My favorite feature and the main reason I bought this head is the Pentode / Triode switching option. It literally cuts power and volume in half with no loss of tone that I could hear. Most power reduction in amps is a circuit that affects tone. This one changes the tubes function and leaves tone alone.

In the Gain channel the Triode mode adds a positive nuance to the gain tone - not sure how but it sounds better to my ears.

So you have a good sounding versatile amp with good tone at lower volumes. Some guys have complained about the lack of boost on the footswitch. The boost control and function is the only 'cheap' element about this amp. The boost is a mid-boost not a true volume boost and frankly it's useless tone-wise to me. It just make the mids 'honky'.

Well, if you think this fits the bill for what you need it for - Buy it. And put a WGS Green Beret in your Cab and you;ll have a great sounding tone unit that is light, cheap and sounds great!!

This is a great amplifier. I know for the price it seems "too good to be true " but it is good. It doesn't have the low end of a boutique amp,but it holds its own in a band setting. It is loud enough believe me. Clean channel is great, drive channel is also great. You don't hear that too often in an affordable amp. You can leave the tubes alone -the ones that come with it work fine. Reverb works great and adds a nice feature to the overall sound. Using the footswitch you could use this as a "plug in and play " amplifier.
